OK, so we are all familiar on what's going on with Matthew Vaughn-directed comic book adaptation
X-Men: First Class, some of which is maybe true, some of which is maybe false. But, does all that really matter for your viewing experience? When it was first announced last summer that director Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, Kick-Ass) will helm the fifth installment in the X-Men franchise, fans were quite pleased and it was something that many looked forward to. Then, the problems started....From the list of characters that will appear in the film, the rushed production, etc...
Let's go into some details here. First off, the director...Matthew Vaughn is an amazing director, if any of you saw that footage of making the
Kick-Ass film, you will understand. He is a passioniate and very detailed director that doesn't like big mistakes. He already said that he will always love more making independent films, because that is where you have your freedom of filmaking. Now, we all know that he almost directed the third X-Men movie, but dropped out at the last minute. But four years later, he is trying to make an X-Men film he always wanted to. At the end, I'm very confident and have trust in Vaughn and the whole crew behind
First Class. When the first trailer debuted yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised by how good the film looks. All those reports about bad CGI and that it looks terrible are definitely not true. So I was just waiting to see if all my hopes will come true. And you know what? They did. Why? Because the LOOK of the film is something I was worried about, but now all that is gone and from that trailer, it looks just great. The tone, CGI, action scenes...If you are so worried about VFX shots in any film, you should be worried about
Green Lantern. I think we all know what I'm talking about.
Now, let's talk about some problems most of the fans (?) have about this film. The direct adaptation of the comic book... By now we can say that
First Class will not feature five original X-Men characters, and honestly I have no problem with it. Why? Because if you as a studio decide to make something new and fresh in this franchise, set in the 60s, then I don't see the point of putting the characters from the original trilogy in this film. A lot of people here on the site have problems with the characters that will appear in
First Class. Let me ask you this, have we ever heard about Cyclops' brother (Havok) in the original trilogy? No we haven't! From that trailer, we can assume it has some connections to the first three X-Men films so I don't get it how would it actually be possible to see five original members from the comic books in this film. It's a prequel and probably if it does well it will also help them launch a new trilogy.
So at the end, they ARE allowed to take this characters and make them what they think it's best. Can the film be a hit? Yes. Can it bomb? Of course. But so can
Thor,
Green Lantern and
Captain America. The point is, don't criticize on something that you have yet to see, because if you do, you will hate it from the beginning and you won't change your opinion at the end if the film is actually great! So I think it's time to acknowledge the fact that we will never see a direct comic book adaptation, there will ALWAYS be something you don't like. But just accept that, move on and enjoy the film.
