Gavin Hood (Probably) Not Returning for Wolverine 2

Gavin Hood (Probably) Not Returning for Wolverine 2

Wolverine 2 seems to be moving its gears very slowly. Maybe that's because they don't know if they have a director yet.

When Gavin Hood was asked about his return he had this to say:

"I don’t even know if I would be involved. Right now I’m not attached. Nobody’s attached. They’re developing a script and we’ll see where everybody is. I’m hoping to be shooting something next year and I don’t think that ‘Wolverine’ will be ready for next year. I haven’t been approached one way or another. The studio is obviously very cautious. They want to see how Wolverine does on DVD. Let them develop the script, let’s see what the script looks like, let’s see how the studio feels about the script, how Hugh [Jackman] feels about it and then we’ll take it from there."

So maybe he will return. He sounds like he would want to do it if the script was good enough and people liked it. Hopefully the DVD sales will be good so that the movie will come out as soon as possible and give us the Japan story that we all want. When asked about the Japan storyline, he had this to say:

"Certainly in Wolverine 2, in the Japanese saga, we will stay very close to the source material. I think it’s just best that way. He went on to say,"I knew everyone was excited by the story in Japan, which I then read and I absolutely do think is a wonderful story and they should do it…I just think that the Japanese story is so iconic and beautiful and could be so visual." He then continued to say, "And honestly, here’s the truth: if the Japanese story works, there might be another sequel. And if it doesn’t, there won’t be. You can get ahead of yourselves by sort of stirring up rumors of what might be. I’m not going to even go there."

So what do you think? Will Hood return? Should Hood return? Is the Japanese storyline the next best step? Discuss it all and more below.

I think he's a competent enough director. Not sure if he really understands action, though.

Don't care who returns as long as Jackman can BE Wolverine this time. I want feral and visceral. He acted more like Cyclops than the beast he is. Honestly, I don't see this working out anyways. Origins was supersaturated with an overpopulation of comic book heroes and villains with little to no relevancy. The ridiculousness of the plot and some out-of-whack characters have polluted the potential of a Wolverine franchise who, in my opinion, is one of the few X-Men that could actually have a movie created about them.

I actually liked the Wolverine movie, it was not Shakespeare but it was not terrible. I think my screen name says who think ruined the movie. Actor and character. Wolverine 2 could be really good if they do a Japanese story. And if it sucks get Ratner to do #3 and we all pig pile on him again!

I think in getting ready to spend the $20 for the DVD, I will spend the rest of the day watching X1-3. I am even going to skip the NASCAR race. Junior is out of the chase so I have lost interest.

to be fair, it was the script that had the main faults!!! the way the film was made was actually very well done IMO. :)

I think with a *GOOD* script, Hood could probably pull it off. But I don't know, it doesn't seem as if he really respects the source material (neither does FOX for that matter).

I'm with Hyson, I want Wolverine to *be* Wolverine, but that probably ain't gonna happen, with FOX (and Schuler-Donner) having it's grimy paws all in it.

I WANT A REAL WOLVERINE MOVIE!

Oh and Japan would make a *great* story, *if* it's done right, but w/ how they screwed up the first one, I dunno how they'll fix it now.

right ya are, josh! that script was shit but they made do with what they had pretty well!!!

i hope they drop the x-men origins part of the title and just call it Wolverine 2...and also i wish they didnt water log the thing with a thousand other characters. i think having gambit in that movie was pointless and dumb and had nothing to do with wolverine

Looking at the first one,

I can't help but wonder why anyone even thinks they could even handle a tale as epic and subtle and full of heart as the Japan story.

I wonder what Frank Miller would say about this. It's his story after all. I'm sure he would be at least as cynical as I am.

I don't know why they still won't give the X-Men costumes... Look at Batman. It works great. I don't understand how Fox could see what they've done with
Batman and still deny us costumes. It's just stupid.. Costumes are what make them superheros dammit.

Would be nice to have him back to do another but I want to see some really creative directors take it. Like Spike Jonez or Rupert Sanders or even Steven Spielburg or Peter Jackson. A combination of any would be awesome.

Frankly Sir... I dont give a Damn!

Gavin Hood is a Chode.

And that movie was absolutely awful in every way. And should not be excused because of a couple of "decent" performances. Otherwise how will they ever learn. That movie was the $hit Bottom Azz crapolopoly.

He is a good director but he [frick]ed up Wolverine. Keep him away from all future comic book movies!
