Hugh Jackman Talks About The Wolverine Script

Jackman says 85 % of Christopher McQuarrie’s script for Darren Aronofsky version is being used for the sequel.

Is it me or does Hugh Jackman think everything is the best? I understand having James Mangold replace Darren Aronofsky would me a few rewrites, but if the script was the best comic book movie script of all time like Hugh made it out to be, I doubt 15 % of it would be redone. As far as we know, Silver Samurai is the main villain in the movie, and will follow the Japanese saga.

The most interesting comment from below is that Hugh asked Darren to direct X3. Too bad he passed on it and it ended up going to Brett Ratner who recently got the gig to host the Oscars. And then used his new found power to hire Eddie Murphy, who is starring in next film to host the show.

“We had a script that was under Darren Aronofsky’s directorial—it’s 85 percent the same. Darren took it in a Darren Aronofsky way and it’s a version I know fans would have liked to have seen – I would have loved to have seen it. James Mangold’s version of the script brought Mark Bomback on. We always had a strong base there. This is the best script we have had, which is precisely why Darren signed on. I tried to get Darren to do X3 and Wolverine and he was always like, ‘It’s not really for me.’ I knew he was looking for a comic book movie and he read this one and he goes, ‘Hey, this is the best one I’ve ever read.’ So there is a lot of meat on the bone there. Now, Mark and Jim have taken it and I think that it as strong, if not stronger, than what we would have had with Darren.”

He typed it correct in the article as Jackman, a typo does not make one an "idiot". I think teeny boppers should avoid proof reading if it resorts to name calling and embarassing themselves.

Also generally speaking actors will almost always say nothing but positive things about a film until some time after the release. They are part of the promotion and PR process

If Hugh was willing to have Sugar Ray teach him how to box for Real Steel, then someone get him in a dojo and teach him some sort of martial art that will make his fighting as Logan more visceral and true to the character.Swordtraining at least for the fight with Shingen to look HALFWAY decent...

HEY GUYS!!! I saw some behind the scenes of the new Clive Owen/Jason Statham movie, and saw Dominic Purcell WITH HAIR AND A BIKER MUSTACHE. That really made me think that DOMINIC PURCELL could make an awesome WOLVERINE! I'm not even a Purcell fan. I've never seen an episode of Prison Break. I think he's a pretty good actor, and WITH HAIR, I think he'd be a great Wolvie! He short. He's stocky! He's built! What do YOU GUYS think?

Why is this the only man that can play Wolverine? He's like two feet taller then what Wolverine should be and should have a yellow mask on... it's like having a spider-man movie with no spider-man costume and peter just wears a leather jacket and swings around.

@Kev-like I said, I'm not a Dom fan, I just saw him with that long black hair and it just reminded me of wolverine. I just wanna see a short, stocky, buff, built, mean, vicious, hardass wolverine. Think Mel Gibson in the Patriot when he takes out the soldiers that are holding Heath Ledger prisoner. VICIOUS. FERAL. BLOODY. In fact, it is my lifes dream to see Mel Gibson play wolvie in an Old Man Logan movie. Everything that Old Man Logan displays emotionally in that story, Mel Gibson would OWN. Make fun of me if you want. I don't care.

@kevberg

Hugh was one of the producers and the BIG star of this franchise. and Fox loves him.

So being a producer and the ONLY star of the prequel, he could have a had a BETTER hand on the decisions, and script.

If he thought the script wasnt right, he had the power to push the studio and stop their stupid decisions and mediocre movies.

without Hugh Jackman, Fox wouldnt have had XO: Wolverine. He could have said NO to many decisions....

he HAD the power to push for a GREAT movie. Did he try it?

maybe, but as we seen, the result proved he didnt stron enough

Why do people keep on saying they want the Japan saga, but then say they want Silver Samurai as the villain? Shingen was the villain in that mini-series. Silver samurai and viper didn't come in until the xmen came over for the wedding. The fact that shingen wasn't a mutant, and still caused Logan problems, including whooping his ass with the wooden sword made it a different dynamic. It was a very internal struggle series with Logan struggling with his rage and anger, and how it shames him in the Japanese culture and in the eyes of Mariko. While the other girl (forgot her name) tries to pull him to be his wild self. Amazing character story that really shows what emotions Wolverine is constantly dealing with.

I hope he's not exaggerating. Wouldn't expect him to say the script sucks.
And it better be rated 'R'!

I doubt we'll ever get an R rated Wolverine film. Kids love Wolverine.

But I get so annoyed by people whining about Hugh being shit or whatever. He's not. He'd be a [frick]ing amazing Wolverine given a good director and FOX not interfering. I don't give a shit how tall he is, I'd prefer a good on screen Wolverine who can act and is a bit tall than one who's a [frick]ing midget and has the acting range of a teaspoon.

I think with Origins they mustve had a good script to begin with. But when FOX began changing things, Hugh couldn't exactly say "Don't watch this, it'll be shit", or else FOX would boot him out of the role and hire some meathead actor who knows nothing about the character, probably some dumbass wrestler.

And for all you idiots who keep whining, do you think that DARREN ARONOFSKY, one of the greatest living directors, would have signed on if the script was shit?! No, he wouldn't. He dropped out due to family issues, not a disliking of the script. And Chris McQuarrie has changed a small amount of the script to suit his own style of film making, instead of trying to mimick Aronofsky's style. He's making it his own. You have to respect him for that.

And FOX can hardly reboot Wolverine now, otherwise that throws First Class out of the window too, thanks to that little cameo in the bar scene.

I would love to see a Wolverine movie if it's rated R, Russel Crowe is Logan, and it's directed by Michael Mann, Takeshi Kaneshiro as Silver Samurai.
