Lauren Shuler-Donner Says X-Men 4 Is A Long Time Away, Updates On The Wolverine & Deadpool

We have heard quite a bit from Donner over the last few days as X-Men: First Class geared up for it's Blu-ray release. And speaking to Popcornbiz she doesn't reveal too much we haven't heard already but does elaborate on the status of both The Wolverine and Deadpool, claiming that she would not make a solo movie of "The Merc With The Mouth" without Ryan Reynolds. She also says that if we do ever see X-Men 4 it will be a long time away.

“I’m focusing on ‘The Wolverine’ and possibly ‘Deadpool.’ That's enough for now. I don't think we want to over-saturate the market. I think if we had six 'X-Men' movies out there nobody would want to see them.”

“We're figuring out where we're going to shoot it and working on the budget and the script and all that sort of stuff – we're in good prep. Hugh and I wanted to do this originally. I showed him ‘The Wolverine Saga' and we're both very passionate about it, for years now, and so, yes, we're very excited to get this to the screen finally. It's a great story.”

So Ryan Reynolds is still very much locked in to play Deadpool then?

“Absolutely – I wouldn't make 'Deadpool' without Ryan, I wouldn't be involved. He's been extremely involved in the process. He was involved with the script. He worked with the writers, throwing out a lot of ideas. We have a great director in Tim Miller from 'Blur' and will give it a different kind of look than all the other movies. Its tone is insane. Oh, it's really funny. It's outrageous, irreverent, violent. I mean – It's Deadpool!”

A while ago word (rumor?) hit that we would be seeing a fourth installment of the franchise that started all of this mutant mayhem. Hopefully going some way to redeem the failings of Brett Ratner's X-Men: The Last Stand. But if that does happen, Donner says it wont be anytime soon..

“In the future – way in the future – would I like to do an 'X-Men 4'? I would, but again there's no reason to saturate the market. So I would say no – I'm happy with what I'm doing right now.”

Well, at least there are plans for it eventually. Sorta. Would you guys even like to see a continuation of Fox's original X-Men movies? And if so what story would you like it to follow?
