Donner on what she thinks about Gavin Hood not returning and other stuff.

Heres the info:

It's X-Men movie day here at IGN, apparently, coming off of our talk yesterday with X-producer Lauren Shuler Donner. (Click here to hear what she had to say about Deadpool and here for the latest on X-Men: First Class.) While discussing the sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, we asked Donner if director Gavin Hood would return for the sequel. She hedged.

"You know, we're just going to get the script right first," was her response. "A little extra polish. … We're very excited. It's going to be a great script."

So it's safe to say that Hood may not be back for Wolvie's continued adventures. But the script is being developed right now, with The Usual Suspects' Christopher McQuarrie writing it. The much-loved Wolverine-in-Japan storyline will be the focus of the sequel of course, which Donner points out was originally meant to be the plot of the first film until studio Fox asked for an origin story instead.

"Well, they had a reason for that," Donner explained. "They wanted to make sure that we weren't just taking for granted that people saw the X-Men trilogy, we didn't take for granted that people were coming into the movie and knew who Wolverine was. And they felt that they needed to lay that basement, that framework, by doing this movie."

The producer adds that while she wants to stay as true to the comics as possible with the sequel, there are many voices that must be heard when making a film -- the director's voice, the studio's voice, the actors' voices, and so on.

"And there's other factors and other voices," she continued. "Gavin said that he wanted, for example, [in the first film] to show Logan's backstory about his father and to understand for him as a director why the character is motivated. And he chose to show Victor Creed as the half-brother because it would help this conflict. So there are many factors. I unfortunately do not make the movie alone. Or fortunately!"

Ozy out.

Yeah disney pretty much owns the world
they should buy complete rights over every marvel character now.
When the disney deal pulls through 100%it will have been the best thing to happen to marvel.

Maybe Disney will just buy Fox LOL...

Didn't realize they own Miramax, now my mind is put at ease about the whole thing.

I bet they will actually buy the characters back in time.

@Texasboy yeah that's the one

There was a great many things wrong and misplaced in Origins. Wolverine has been my favorite since his introduction in the Hulk, I think Fox knows they f**ked up big and need to redeem themselves with a great Wolverine movie. Jackman is very familiar with the Japan story and I think his voice will be heard on the sequel. They know damn well there's no rebooting Wolverine with any other actor. He is the character like Downey is Iron Man, and Bale is Batman.

Do Wolverine 2 right, make sure it is actually interesting like the source material and dont include silly unnecessary characters (Im looking at you Blob, Gambit and most of the bloody X-Men!) Less characters, an added half hour, kick-ass action, feral Wolverine and more character development please. I want a movie up there with the Dark Knight. Are you listening Fox you no good pricks with no talent

I gotta think the one shot storyline that ran in X-men about Logan's first encounter with Captain America and the Black Widow would make an excellent flick. Flashbacks galore! And it would tie the two franchises together in a nice tight bow!

@Logan-X probably just the working title if any man, they're not far enough along to have that pinned down.

And even though it was called Wolverine, it was to very large degree content wise about the roots of the Xmen universe. I do think that if Rogue-Deadpool-katana hands man, the Cajun who can't remember his own accent Gambit, the Silverfox/Whitequeen sisterhood, and Fat for no good reason Blob, etc. had been pulled off better, I'd have enjoyed it more. And what is really preturbing about these problems, is that it establishes them for the life of the movie continuity that way.

The problem with Deadpool in the movie was not that we (well for me anyway) wanted to see a carbon copy of the comicbook iteration, but that they took ABSURD and RADICAL liberties, and got some of his coolest attributes all screwed up. The kitanas in the arms for instance, teleportation, and him having "lazer blasting" eyes, which were suposedly "absorbed" or infused from Cyclops, and pulling the weapon XI designation out of thin air (if I'm not mistaken). Which ESTABLISHES HIM FOR FUTURE MOVIES and is such a radical and uncalled for departure from the original.

Then they went on to claim one of his main powers in the origins movie will be "absorbing other mutants powers"... lol now if they mean by that, that he's gonna be a movie Rogue carbon copy, well why's we ever have Rogue in the first place; but I HOPE they just meant "his healing factor is so high he can tolerate implants from other mutants". That is somewhat accurate quoting of what LSD (Donner - lol never realized those were her initials), and/or a press release I read said about what we can expect from Deadpool: Origins.

Hugh's performance was great (and Liev's was a showstealer), but instead of a tv effects calibre probly $500,000 dollar adamantium infusion cg scene, there was no, absolutely fundamentally iconic to his origin, scene of Weapon X in the snow.

All these things (and many others) contributed to a lesser craftsmanship of the movie, and made it much less than what it could've been.

But anyway, after the leak and the fan backlash, with the teasers at the end of the movie, they kind of opened up many possibilities to fix what most of us think were mistakes.

Anyway, I don't think we know much except what this article's telling us (which is not much), that it's based on the acclaimed Japan run, and that we're definitely gonna see Fox trying to stick in as many mutants as possible to retain their properties. LSD is just a spin doctor more than anything.

That's definitely one of the main thing that bothered me about Borigins - they could've focused so much more on Wolverine, Sabretooth, Gambit, and Deadpool, but they had to arbitrarily stick in all these ham-handed exploitative cameos of mutants obviously just to establish and retain their rights.

Again, here we go, "we got a good script"

THEY ALWAYS have a good script, lets see if it can be executed.

they should have stuck with wolvie in japan for the original. most of the reason wolverine became so popular is due to his mysterious past. they should have done a couple of just moments from his past, they could have made an entire movie about "black ops" wolvie. hell, they could have done an entire movie on his birth and what not. they crammed his "origin" story in with the black ops stuff. they could have gotten 2 full movies just with those stories alone!
