As Marvel Studios continues assembling the cast of its untitled X-Men reboot, a wild new rumour is doing the rounds on social media today. Several online scoopers are hinting or outright claiming that Lady Gaga will play Dazzler in the 2028 movie.
This would presumably be a cameo role for the 40-year-old singer and actress, and it's easy to imagine the mutant performing in the Hellfire Club, for example. Regardless of the extent of her role in X-Men, casting Lady Gaga would be a huge "get" for Marvel Studios.
If there's any truth to this, then we have to believe the trades will catch wind of it soon. Gaga will surely want something meaty to sink her teeth into here, so we'd bet on her doing a little more than just singing in the background somewhere.
It's also worth noting that there's a chance these scoopers are incorrect and that Gaga has been enlisted for a cameo in Avengers: Secret Wars. As of now, nothing is confirmed, and this is best taken with a pinch of salt.
In 2015, Lady Gaga made her acting debut in American Horror Story: Hotel as The Countess. Her performance earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Television Movie. She later starred in A Star Is Born as Ally Maine opposite Bradley Cooper, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She also won the Oscar for Best Original Song for "Shallow."
Later, Gaga played Patrizia Reggiani in Ridley Scott's House of Gucci, followed by Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux (2024), opposite Joaquin Phoenix. The latter received largely negative reviews, but Gaga was widely praised for her work.
As for Alison Blaire, she was created by Tom DeFalco, John Romita Jr. and Roger Stern, debuting in Uncanny X-Men #130 in 1980. Dazzler was introduced as a singer and performer whose mutant abilities allow her to convert sound into light.
The mutant can use that light to create powerful energy blasts, lasers, flashes and holographic effects, with the amount of available sound influencing the strength of her powers. In more recent years, Dazzler has been portrayed as a Taylor Swift-like figure, with rumours swirling at one stage that she would take on the role in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), the untitled X-Men movie stars Kit Connor (Heartstopper) as Scott Summers, Sadie Sink (Spider-Man: Brand New Day) as Jean Grey, Inde Navarrette (Obsession) as Rogue, Asa Germann (Gen V) as Angel, Maya Boyd (& Juliet) as Storm, and Christopher Abbott (Catch-22) as Professor Charles Xavier.
Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) also stars as Emma Frost, alongside Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), who plays Nathaniel Milbury, an alias of Mister Sinister in the comics. There are also rumours that Marvel Studios will introduce Apocalypse as the next Saga's big bad.
X-Men will be released exclusively in theaters May 5, 2028.
