SDCC 2013: X-MEN DOFP Director Singer Explains Wolverine's Time Traveling

At Fox's press conference, it has been confirmed that actor Hugh Jackman's Wolverine is the one who is sent into the past by Kitty Pryde. A few details after the jump...

Fox shocked the media at their press conference when they walked out the entire main case of next summer's X-Men Days of Future Past. Everyone from Hugh Jackman to Patrick Stewart to Michael Fassbender to Jennifer Lawrence were there with everyone else who plays a major role too!

One of the biggest questions surrounding the next X-Men movie is who the time traveler is and that has now been confirmed to be Wolverine.

"Kitty is the one who sends someone back in time and so as people will see... Wolverine goes back in time," said Days of Future Past writer Simon Kinberg.

Director Bryan Singer went into a bit more detail regarding next summer's time traveler.

"Basically the notion is Hugh of the future is sent … his conscienceness... is sent into his younger self [and] Hugh gets to play both parts because he is ageless," Singer said.

In the comics it is Kitty who takes a trip back into the mind of her younger self but this adapted version has Wolverine and it just makes sense since he is Fox's X-Men poster boy. Now fans have to wait until the first trailer for X-Men Days of Future Past is released and should hope they'll also get a first glimpse of the Sentinels.

X-Men Days of Future Past hits theaters on May 23, 2014.

People need to understand that Wolverine is perfect for this because he is ageless.

Having Pryde be the main would be freaking stupid. You'd need two different actors and with the established film franchise, we can't relate to her as a main character.

Great question! I do recall the info we received last week in regards to the brief synopsis.

That's exactly what I said, I knew two physical Wolverines in the past would cause too much confusion!

The wolverine we saw with grey streaks is highly possible the Wolverine from an alternate future.

Then again we have to know exactly where Wolverine ends up at the end of "The Wolverine" to make inferences of the timeline he's in. In the Wolverine he has his regular dark hair. However in that recent picture of him that we all saw of him had him wearing a yellowish costume.

In the comics Wolverine was one of the only mutants wearing street clothes when everyone else wore their uniform due to the fact that he wasn't being held within the concentration camp with the others. So who's to say that the X-Men didn't undergo a costume change after the events of The Last Stand. :)

Whats wrong is that shes a little girl, meaning there would need to be ANOTHER actor play her, and that no one wants to see a boring character like her as the main.

Kitty Pride was even born in the 70's, so it can't be her consciousness that get's sent back to her younger self. Wolverine makes the most sense, outside of Xavier. Magneto would probably do something bad, and ruin it for everybody.

Another Wolverine based X-Men movie... big surprise. Be honest, at this point the only X-men movie that wasn't focused on a costumeless Wolverine was First Class. Just call it Wolverine and Them

Like I've always said and will continue to say - As long as Singer is in any way involved/attached, etc to Fox's X-Men Films, Wolverine is ALWAYS going to be the go-to guy b/c in Singer's mind, he's the only viable X-Man. I see once again, it's all about Wolverine. Wow, Big Surprise. This is what initially turned me off to the first X-Men trilogy. I mean Singer even found a way to include him First Class. In fact, Quicksilver's screen time in XMDOFP will be so minimum (as to make time for Singer's beloved Wolvie) that him appearing in this and Avengers 2 won't be as big of a deal as people initially thought.

I absolutely HATE Bryan Singer's interpretation of the X-Universe and I hope against hope that one day the rights to all thing X-Men will once again be in the very capable hands of Marvel Studios. It probably WON'T happen but that's why its called 'hope'.

Looks like they are using the Cartoon version of Bishop from Wolverine & The X-Men. Stupid idea. Singer has a history of not using the X-men characters properly any ways. Terrible idea to send Wolverine back when other characters make more sense and are actually used from the source material.

AdamX - 7/20/2013, 7:02 PM

I don't mind that Wolverine is the one who gets sent back. I mean, he is the biggest character in the X-Men franchise. I don't see anyone of you complaining that Superman can't have a sequel w/o Batman stealing his spotlight.

well... i dont like the idea, but kitty cant be send to the past because she doesnt exist in the past(remember that in the comic she is sent to her past body), the only guys from the future that can return to the past are wolvi, beast and....magneto or profesor x...so... is obsly that they will send wolverine
