Along with the new stills released in Entertainment Weekly, director James Mangold freely shared a few choice tidbits about the women surrounding Logan (Hugh Jackman) in The Wolverine.

The Wolverine
James Mangold offered up this interesting quote on Yukio played by newcomer Rila Fukushima, "I would say [Wolverine and Yukio] have a unique relationship. She's lethal herself. She's a tremendous fighter....I think she's both sexy and almost kind of sprung from the anime world. It's a real badass character."

The director went on to say that he hopes the fight scenes are something a little different from what's come before, "There's an urgency and a kind of intensity and hand to hand physicality to the fighting that I hope is a little different than everything else out there."

Lightly touching on The Wolverine picking up from the end of X-Men: The Last Stand and the death of Jean-Grey Mangold states, "He realizes everyone he loves dies, and his whole life is full of pain. So it's better that he just escapes. He can't die really. He just wants to get away from everything."

Viper played by Svetlana Khodchenkova, was revealed in Entertainment Weekly to have a sexy, green costume in keeping with her character's comic book background as a member of Hydra. Mangold shared that, "As her name would imply, she's kind of snakelike. She likes to play with toxins. She's immune to toxins. She's kind of formidable. Viper views Logan like a great hunter might view hunting a lion in his quarry. There's kind of an admiration, a desire to destroy and a desire to consume and to have and to hold."

Mariko (Tao Okamoto) is Logan's primary love interest in the film. Mangold provided a little background about where we find Mariko at the start of the film, "At the time this movie opens, there's a kind of gangland war going on between law enforcement and the Yakuza, and there's been a lot of kidnappings and extortion. So she's someone who's under threat."
