UPDATE: Will "The Jean Grey School For Higher Learning" Feature In THE WOLVERINE?

Spotted in a leaked set photo from The Wolverine, it appears as if "The Jean Grey School For Higher Learning" will play a role in the upcoming prequel. Coincidence or proof that the film will have a connection to Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: Days Of Future Past? Check it out!

X-Men Origins: Wolverine was an epic disappointment. Between the fact that they butchered the origin story of the character and threw in a bunch of mutant cameos which still haunt the nightmares of many a comic book lover ("Deadpool"...) it was not the solo movie that Wolverine deserved. Well, James Mangold's take on the character may just make up for that. A standalone film, it looks set to take Logan to Japan, while classic bad guys such as Viper and Silver Samurai all look set to be introduced. However, The Wolverine may not quite be as "standalone" as we originally thought. The Geek Files have come across the following set photo which seemingly reveals that "The Jean Grey School For Higher Learning" will somehow feature in the film. It could of course be a random easter egg or simple coincidence, but it's not hard to imagine Logan renaming and reopening the school following the deaths of Jean Grey, Charles Xavier and Cyclops in X-Men: The Last Stand.

The above Tweet from director James Mangold also seems to indicate that The Wolverine may not be a straightforward prequel. Following Hugh Jackman's cameo appearance in X-Men: First Class, it's definitely possible that the film will somehow be connected to Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: Days Of Future Past. It wouldn't be at all surprising if the film isn't set before the events of the original trilogy. What if it takes place after X-Men: The Last Stand? Perhaps Wolverine heads to Japan and later returns to America, opening the school? We'll just have to wait and see. Be sure to sound off with your thoughts and theories in the usual place!

UPDATE: It actually appears as if the "JG" logo is a left over piece of set from the production of The Great Gatsby as you can see from the trailer screengrab below. Thanks to @Marvel_Freshman for the heads up.

Coincidence? I think not. LOL, there is no way this is some kind of coincidence.

Also I thought this movie was supposed to take place before the first X-Men movie?

The comic series this is based on takes place while Wolverine is a member of the X-Men, not beforehand. It ends with him inviting members of the X-Men to his wedding, with the final page showing them smiling at the invitation. So, it looks like we'll be getting our first look at a post-X3 world.

Jumping right into the current X-verse! I don't disagree

I don't like it. If we assume this is true then don't we also have to assume this takes place after X3 the last stand? I thought this all was taking place before any of the X-Men films. I'm confused, someone straighten me out.

See I wondered if this movie took place in present day time. So I'm just going to say to all the people who read this comment "Wolverine takes place after X-men last stand" just so people can reference me when its revealed

Didnt they mention Logan was gonna be in a WW2 prison camp and this would be a stand alone film...So how can this take place after X3?

Diluting the X-universe timeline still, I'll be more confused if this film is included in the series of past films.

I guess this takes place after X-Men: The Last Stand. Maybe another school, like the Xavier one, opens up in Japan and Wolverine is it's headmaster. Not likely, but just throwing stuff out there.

Yup, a point I mentioned myself a few comments above yours, its supposed to be stand alone so I doubt theye'd bring in JG school or anything after Last Stand

It is interesting and seems to not make sense. I trust it, but it seems to not make sense.

I do believe the biggest twist ever could be if Cable is in this movie and the prequel part is him taking Wolverine to the past to finish something. Idk.

Nostalgic - 9/9/2012, 6:42 PM
I meant Cable bc then the JG school could exist if it takes place partly in the future.

And by 'Cable' I TOTALLY meant. BISHOP. Sorry, I sound like a noob now.

What they SHOULD do:

1. The Wolverine being a stand alone film, yet having a tie in to Days of Future Past.

2. Days of Future Past, the "situation" that occured and killed all the mutants needs to be Apocalypse or Mr. Sinister and the Sentinels.

3. Enter X-Men 4: Age of Apocalypse.

Just throwing this out there. Logan is distraught over the fact that he had to kill Jean to stop the Phoenix so he runs away...like he always does in the movies...to Japan. Now, about the WW2 prison camp. There are still those camps around in Japan today where soldiers where being held. So this doesn't have to take place in the 40s. Maybe he causes some trouble in a town where they have one, so they throw him in there for a while. At the end of the film he decides to stay and open up a school in the form of Xaivers, but in memory of Jean. Again, just a thinking outloud. Probably just an Easter egg.

They flat out denied Logan was going to be in XMFC, despite the tweet of that cab driver that took Jackman to the filming location. So who knows what to believe about this being a stand alone flim. Trust me I want to believe this isn't connected to that Singerverse.

Even though X-Men: First Class did a bit to redeem the franchise, the X-Men series is confusing as all hell. I really feel like first class should just be considered a reboot, and not worry about connecting to the original films. And I really do not know what to think of The Wolverine at this point.

I think an understandable way to introduce the JGSFHL could be that this film takes place after X3, and he moves to japan because he feels he has nothing to do in the US with JG, Prof. X, and Cyclops gone. Maybe, just maybe, after his final battles, he realizes that mutants need to be helped and he decides to take on the role of Prof X and make a school for mutants.
