Hugh Jackman talks to ET about his insane diet for THE WOLVERINE which nearly made him faint, working with one of the greatest ensembles in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, and his most brutal day of shooting so far.

We all know Hugh Jackman did crazy things to get the shape he wanted for THE WOLVERINE (the 10-6 diet etc.). Add another one to that list - the water dehydration diet, that he had also brought up in a previous interview. Jackman additionally describes in detail his most brutal day of filing yet, the fight with Shingen, which was recently released.

The ET interview can be seen below. Also, you can watch extensive Behind The Scenes footage from Jackman's most brutal day of filming here, courtesy 60 Minutes Australia.

What was the most brutal day (on set)?
There's this scene in the hallway where Shingen, played by Hiro, and I have this fight and I have my shirt off in this. So it was a key moment physically, I had to be in peak condition for that and I went on a water dehydration diet so that I could be as ripped and cut as possible for that. For 24-30 hours, you don't drink any liquid. I had a massive headache, I trained really hard that morning and you start cramping up and then we were doing this fight!

I had real claws on, he had the sword and it was very precise. Now Hiro has done 80 films and he's a genius and he can pull a sword that far from you every time. Me? No. I didn't tell him this but I am very clumsy. I have stabbed more than one person (while) playing this part and he was very very trusty of me but I was headachy, a little bit faint, and doing that fight sequence. By far the toughest day of all. I was glad to walk away from that one.

You've done this over and over again but is it safe to say this is the furthest you have pushed yourself physically?
Yeah. Yeah.

Your wife and kids, what do they of the Wolverine physique?
Deb will tell you that she doesn't like it, she prefers me chubby, coz it makes her look better. But I don't know. I met her on a prison drama where I was pretty jacked for that and I guess we wouldn't have been together if I hadn't met her with that body.

What can you tell us about X-MEN: DAYS OF THE FUTURE PAST?
This is probably of the great ensembles, forget comic book movies, one of the greatest ensembles ever put together. And I am getting to work with all of them so I feel very lucky.

And it must have been great to return with Halle as well?
She's one of the great people in our business. And I say that not only as an actress, obviously we know she's a great actress, but as a person, she's right up there for me with people I have worked with. And to see her pregnant ... I'm only giggling because she was quite pregnant when we started and to fit into one of those leather suits when you are pregnant - it's difficult. But She managed to hide it .She is beyond a trooper. That girl's as wise and honest as you name it.

The two sets of casts - the old trilogy and the first class cast, Jackman is the only one who got to work with all of them. So this implies that he is the one who travels back in time and he worked with both the casts - the modern day one and the 70's one.

I cannot believe how bad his claws look in every scene of this movie...

Why have they paid no attention to detail...

His claws clearly look like they are coming out of his fingers and not the top of his wrist where they should...

Not eating for a day doesn't help but dehydrating tightens everything up.

He only ate between 10-6 and then fasted for the rest of the 16 hours.

The movie Wolverine has his claws coming out from between fingers since the first X-Men.
Go back & watch his first claw-popping scene.
I like it that way & most comic book artists now draw his claws coming out from there & not top of hand/wrist.
