BOX OFFICE: WOLVERINE Franchise Passes $1 Billion Worldwide As LOGAN Passes $100 Million Domestic

Thanks to Logan, the Wolverine trilogy has now passed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office. Hit the jump for details on that and some surprising news about what's to come this weekend...

On Tuesday, Logan exceeded expectations at the North American box office with a haul of $8.6 million to take its current domestic haul to $104.2 million. That in itself is impressive, but when you add the movie's overseas opening of $159 million, the Wolverine trilogy (if you want to call it that given how standalone each of them has been) has now clawed its way past the $1 billion mark worldwide.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine earned $373 million back in 2009, while 2013's The Wolverine would gross a total of $414 million. How much higher is Logan going to go? That obviously remains to be seen!

Deadline reports that Logan could end up taking the #1 spot again this weekend, beating Kong: Skull Island in the process. For that to happen, the iconic monster's new movie will need to earn just $50 million, while Wolverine's final adventure falls less than 50%. It's too soon to say whether or not that is going to happen, but it would be a huge victory for Fox for the R-Rated release to remain on top.

@kylo0607 - I think it's a great start to a great cbm year, I have a feeling that gotg, spiderman, justice League and Thor are all going to be really good this year. I know hoping all is great, is tough to expect, but I got a gut feeling the next year + up to infinity war is going to be an amazing run in quality cbm's

@kylo0607 - Finally got around to seeing it. Admitingly, I'm more DC than Marvel (I do enjoy both, just too much humor in Marvel for my taste). Loved Logan! I will own this on BluRay.

So crazy how much better each of the films were from the one before. I've never seen that in a trilogy before.
