Three out of the five 2017 WGA nominations went on to receive an Oscar nomination. Of course, what sticks out is the fact that
Deadpool received a WGA nomination but didn't receive an Academy Award nomination. While it's veritably difficult for comic book films to received consideration by the Academy for categories outside of costumes and VFX, however, the fact that Hugh Jackman is retiring from the role could give Logan the extra weight it needs to tip the scales in its favor.
The nominations for this year's Academy Awards will be announced to the public on January 23.
