Darren Aronofsky Refuses To Reveal Whether He's In The Running To Direct Wolverine 2!

The director has refused to reveal whether or not there's any truth behind the recent rumours but does admit to having never even heard of Wolverine until meeting Hugh Jackman...

"I don't know what you're talking about," Aronofsky said when asked by MTV News why he was seen meeting with FOX co-chairman Tom Rothman recently. "There are a lot of projects out there and I haven't really focused on anything yet."

"Even though I've been attached to all these comic book movies, I never really was a comic book kid growing up," he revealed. "I didn't really have comic books. I didn't really know who Wolverine was until I met Hugh Jackman and got to know it."

"Of course, I grew up with Batman and Superman and Spider-Man a little bit, but I'm not the biggest comic book fan, even though I've been attached to a lot of them."

"It would be fun to do one, but it's just finding the right situation, the right project."

Dude, even my mom's heard of Wolverine! Pretentious much? Get out of your little artsy-fart world and enjoy some pop culture! Geez! Fanboy rant over. That being said, I really do like Aronofsky's movies. I just hate it when filmmakers, artists, actors, etc. say "I've never heard of that". It's like they think it'll ruin this cultivated, snooty image they have of themselves by just admitting they've heard of something.

THIS IS THE GUY who can redeem us from the crapfest of BOrigins. Please let him be the one to make this movie! If Aronofsky gets his hands on Wolverine we might actually end up with a movie that's worth the price of admission!

Hey maybe if he directs wolverine might actually draw blood! or they can just put pretty flowers on his claws like the last movie.

it would be nice to see ONE, WOLVERINE in the movie and not just logan, and TWO, wolverine doing what he does best, which is kill swarms and swarms of bad guys.

@jazzman- I don't think he's a douche, I just don't think he's being completely honest. I realize that not everybody is a comic book fan, but to never have heard of Wolverine? In this day and age of instant communications and info sharing? Yeah, right. I don't buy it.

he said he didn't really know who Wolverine was until he met Hugh Jackman thats must of been when they worked together on 2006 "The Fountain". but he must of heard of the character but he does not know about the history of Wolverine thats all.

He said he didn't really know who Wolverine was, not that he hadn't heard of him.He probably knew the character, he just didn't know anything about him.

McTeigue would be a good choice too. We know he can do Ninjas and the Japan saga has plenty of those!

I don't know, he comes off as a douche! He may be a good director but i would prefer someone who would at least somewhat care about the character and at least know who he was. I would prefer someone else.

If he does, he worked with Frank Miller on the Batman: Year One movie he was doing a while ago. I think Frank actually wrote the script for that, or maybe it was something else. But either way, we'd probably get something pretty faithful to the Claremont/Miller comics if he was on, and his movies show that he wouldn't just kiss the studios' ass like all the other Fox CBM directors.

I've been saying McTeigue would be good since Ninja Assassin came out.If he's supposedly on their Fantastic Four shortlist, why can't he be on the Wolverine shortlist?
Superzero
Superzero - 9/24/2010, 12:32 PM
@Luigi
I read that script. It was TERRIBLE!! A) Bruce Wayne was NOT a millionaire he was a crazy mental nut job that lived above a garage. B) Alfred was a black mechanic named Big Al. C) The guy couldn't even just do an adaptation of his OWN friggin story! He crapped it up and took out anything that made him Batman...even CHANGED Bruce's origin! Trust me be glad it was never made!

darren aronofsky is a great director,he'd never do a comicbook movie.

its beneath him.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 9/24/2010, 12:44 PM
I'm glad he's honest about not being familiar with Wolverine - it's better than him saying something like: "Oh, yeah 'Hogan' is one of my favourite characters. In fact, I especially like the villain 'Razortooth'!" :P I know that's a silly example but I don't really care about this movie either way...Aronofsky could do much better than directing some shitty Fox CBM!

Intruder and I differ majorly on a lot of films but I'm with him on this. I would give my left nut to see a Wolverine movie with this dude at the helm..whether he had heard of the character or not is irrelevant, he has NOW!
jazzman
jazzman - 9/24/2010, 1:02 PM
@deadpool72

but yet he wanted to do Robocop reboot but he left the project cause the studio want the movie in 3D and he did not like that idea.

I just want to state, for the record, never actually called D.A. a douche, or said I didn't want him to direct Wolverine 2 ( I actually think he would be a decent choice). I actually like Intruder's idea of Aronofsky for Daredevil.

@Gusto- So was Gavin Hood. ;)

inturder- oh so if this choice this guy fox is making a right choice? what about Vaughan a great director filming first class and has a 65 chance of being good. And if it is good then would you then will you take back everything you said about fox cause they only made 2 bad x-men movies and 2 good x-men movies not bad for fox it beats marvel for all the comic book bad movies and yet people still hate fox.

telavizion- wrong look at nolan non- comic book fan and he made 2 of the greatest movie of our time.

erick- the only comic i read was 1 x-men comic, 1 superman comic, 1 justice league comic, killing joke, a spiderman comic and thats it i don't read comics at all and i know a lot of character an is because of cartoons and growing up watching all these comic book movies and i also write on this site.

Darren will never do a comic book movie. Its obvious this guy doesn't now anything about comics so I wouldn't want him to touch any comic material anyways.
