Tao Okamoto says she read the original comic book from Chris Claremont and Frank Miller where he character Mariko Yashida, "was more of a princess." But in the film from James Mangold, Mariko is a "tougher, stronger, more interesting woman." Hiroyuki also adds that Jackman is a great producer and made sure to take care of everyone on the set. Okamoto also discusses rehearsing a kissing scene with Hugh Jackman that made her swoon.
