WOLVERINE: Zac Efron Responds To MCU Casting Rumors And Potentially Replacing Hugh Jackman

There have been rumblings about Zac Efron joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years now, with the actor often linked to Wolverine. Now, he's responded to the possibility of replacing Hugh Jackman...

For years now, Zac Efron's name has been linked to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Back when Marvel Studios was looking to cast Moon Knight's lead, we even heard that they were searching for a "Jewish Zac Efron-type."

During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show, Efron was asked about that and the persistent rumours he's being eyed to take over the role of Wolverine from Hugh Jackman (who we recently learned will reprise his most iconic role in Deadpool 3).

"Really? Wow, they could just call me," he said in response to learning Marvel Studios had been on the hunt for a "type" like him. As for those Wolverine claims, he added, "I think Hugh's still doing that pretty well. I got to give it to him."

When Fallon pointed out that Efron could ask for Jackman's blessing after they shared the screen in The Greatest Showman, he responded, "Yeah, I guess I had my foot in the door on that one. I should go talk to him." Needless to say, we don't think this one will pan out!

While there probably is a comic book role out there for Efron, fan enthusiasm to see him suit-up has died off a little in recent years and he no longer seems like a great fit for Wolverine. While Marvel Studios is expected to recast the role at some point, we don't see it happening for a while considering the next Deadpool movie will put the spotlight back on Jackman's Variant.

Taron Egerton, an actor who has also worked with Jackman, remains a firm favourite to play Logan down the line, though we don't know whether that will pan out either. A big part of that, of course, is the fact that we still don't know what Marvel Studios has lined up for the X-Men!

Would you like to see Efron play the MCU's Wolverine? Let us know your thoughts below.

Too young looking to play Wolverine, I don't want someone old but he should look older.

@AmazingFILMporg - He isn't rugged enough,he is probably in his late 20s,I would be surprised if he is in his 30s.

Way too clean-cut and a tad too tall.

He is 5'8.

You are not gonna find alot of short quality actors who are also jacked. Remember, wolverine was created on a comicbook page. He wasn't based on a real person💁

@AmazingFILMporg - At least as far as we know he wasn't.

I'd get a short person and get him ripped. It would probably be cruel to do it the other way around (getting a jacked guy and making him short).

You'd probably need a mallet at least the size of a tree stump.

But you have to understand that thats close to impossible. You have to sacrifice one and it's height for me. I want a good actor and jacked.

@AmazingFILMporg - I mean Hugh wasn't jacked in X-Men 1. But he was in The Wolverine and Logan. That's why they started calling him Hugh 'Jack'man. Because he was a huge, jacked man.

He was in great shape still. Not like he is now but still in good shape

@AmazingFILMporg - I'm sure we can find a short guy in as good a shape as Jackman was in X-Men 1.

Wait, I've got it:

@WaffeX - i always thought if Jack Nicholson was still young, he might be fit as wolverine. Just saw a movie about him becoming the werewolf....he does look like the wolverine from Jim Lee's.

Maybe he could be Angel.
He's pretty enough. Just about. And Timothy Chalamet has been told not to do comic book movies (because there's too much money and too many career opportunities in comic book movies or something).

@AmazingFILMporg - "Efron was running through his house in socks when he slipped and hit his chin against a granite fountain..." 🫤

Seriously. That is the excuse he gave. SMH 😣

It's funny cause in 2014 on one of the late night shows he used that excuse for something else...lol

Why are almost all the rumours pointing at Marvel casting some young, clean cut, boyscout-looking conventionally attractive actor as the gruff, grizzly, rugged, rough-around-the-edges Wolverine?

Also why are they so focused around the idea that Wolverine will even be a part of the first X-Men movie when Marvel finally get around to kicking the series off? Why not give the original 5 (and Storm hopefully) a chance to really shine on their own before adding Wolverine to the equation?

@AC1 - Jackman starred in stage musicals and soap operas before being cast as Wolverine. He looks pretty clean cut as well.

Zac is like 5'7. He's not the worst choice for Wolverine. He's actually in my top 3.
