There have been rumblings for a while now that something could be in the works with X-Men: The Animated Series at Marvel Studios, and a new rumour may have given us a little more to go on.
According to scooper KC Walsh during a recent appearance on the Change My Mind podcast, he's heard that an animated X-Men project is in the works at the studio for Disney+, but "[doesn't] know if it's something new, if they're retooling something." However, he adds that "There was talk about a year ago that people involved with that certain theme song may have had conversations with a certain studio. And I did hear in 2023 that there's a possibly animated project going into the works."
Just like The Clone Wars was revived for Disney's streaming service, it makes perfect sense to bring X-Men: The Animated Series back. Whether that would be with modern animation or a recreation of what the show used to look like is hard to say, but it will certainly be interesting to see whether Marvel Studios is able to bring back that original voice cast.
Of course, it's also possible this is a new project, and that might not be the worst way for the studio to reinvent these characters for a modern audience after Fox's disastrous last few movies.
Whether this X-Men show would be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains to be seen, but we're optimistic that there are live-action plans in place for the mutant superheroes. Victoria Alonso, President of Physical, Post Production, VFX and Animation at Marvel Studios, has hinted at a rebranding of the team in past interviews, so who knows what form this project could take.
