Hey all, boy I have not seen a huger reaction to plot details and announcements since I came on this site. There seems more anger and hatred towards this one movie and I wanna know why. I read most of the articles about this, JoshW's was a tad sporadic and basically calling this movie out as going to be the worst CBM ever made, apparently Steel, Tank Girl, Cat Woman, and Elektra aren't in his eye but that remains to be said at the moment. I do respect his articles and while I think he's being way too judgmental on something we have no real control over yet he voiced his opinion. We know a comic book film such as this will do well with the main stream because they are eating up comic book movie like candy and while we fans will poke and prod these as butchering of our favorite teams and characters.

I know why you all are in such an upheaval over this mess....its because they are using the name FIRST CLASS, which is a title that Marvel made which showed the very early days of the original roster of the X-men, which were Cyclops, Jean, Beast, Ice-man, and Angel. I did read the first TPB and it was entertaining but it didn't focus on just them, but on them teaming up with other heroes, something we know can't be done due to all the licensing issues studios have like they are freaking cattle. We know the film is more or less a prequel to the first 2 X-men films, which as we saw treated comic book characters in a believable manner and didn't stoop to a low where it was all action and no story, I seen them again recently and I have to admit, while a total disregard to some elements and continuity from the comics, they are amazing films, Singer, who admitted not a fan, loved the story and concept was able bring us two amazing films that were allegorical about racism and prejudice but told from this comic titles interpretation. Then Ratner came in and screwed it up by making it ALL about the action rather than the story by not only messing up what may be considered one of the greatest story arcs told in comics but totally ruining the work Singer had created.

So we got all the news about who's in and who's not, and the fact there was no Scott or Jean seem to be the focal points on this hot topic, and so it seems many here are bashing for the sake of bashing and hating for the sake of hating. Heres one thing, who said that the comic universe and the movie universe were one-in-the-same. Look at many if not all of the latest offerings like Spider-man, Iron Man, Blade, Hulk, Batman, and many others. They keep both universes apart and yet the film makers and studios try their DAMNEDEST to not only appeal to the mainstream and average movie goer but to please the hard core fans and devotees to these comics, even if its easter eggs or slight nods to the comics, they still push appeal to both crowds. I keep saying that studios have to find a BALANCE between what works in which medium, so having characters taken out or saved for later installments is a natural case for all films, look at Incredible Hulk, they set up for the LEADER while at the same time keeping the tone focused on the Abomination. Same can be said with Iron Man 1 and 2, the first movie gave us a lower tier villain like Stane and then we moved up and got a combination of Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo, which never happened in the comics.

We all know FOX is best known for basically taking huge dumps on our favorite franchises, but I keep saying that if you all remember, FOX made GOOD movies in the past until the 90s came along and they just gave up and cared only about the money and having control over their product, rather than allowing the film makers to make a great product. There are a few exceptions nowadays but those instances are tiny(Predators being one of them) and are few and far in-between.

Another aspect is that the films setting, which is set in the 1960s, which I think is PERFECT because thats when the comics were coming out and thats as we all know from History class, a time of great upheaval for civil rights and equality, which is a major theme the X-men did in those times. Another aspect is the costuming, the fact that we will be seeing more comic book style costumes over those black latex/leather suits is a better upgrade than keeping what has been established. I like the idea that we are seeing them appealing to its time and giving us something new instead of something we saw before.

Another big thing is the casting, which so far is pretty slim in terms of BANKABLE names. So far the only big names attached to this is Kevin Bacon and James MacAvoy, everyone else I never heard of which means this is their big break into films or unknowns I never...well heard of. I think Kevin Bacon in the film is BRILLIANT, I don't wanna hear any of you bashing Bacon, He's a great guy and a great actor. He's played a great villain in Hollow Man, although you don't see him, but he brought some great weight and performance to the role, so having him as Sebastian Shaw is a perfect choice. We know MacAvoy is playing Xavier, a much younger one and supposedly we will see how he gets into his wheelchair at some point in this movie. Also we got word the Alice Eve left the project so January Jones could take over with the Emma Frost role, I heard shes from Mad Men so she should be great in the acting aspect, but to hopefully fill in that costume@_@. Michael Fassbender is playing Magneto seems like a great casting choice, he was amazing in Inglorious Basterds, so I can't wait to see if he copies McKellans portrayal or do his own style.

As for the roster of the X-men, they made mention of seeing original and new members in this film. We got a small listing of who's in it so far. I like that we are getting both new members and original members, although it seems that Xavier and Beast seem to be the ONLY original members but still, having to set-up this universes version of the characters and history, they are rearranging it but still I like seeing new ways of interpretation. As I mentioned earlier that the main reason for all the hate is that we will not see Jean or Scott, considering that they are YOUNG for this setting and time, I know that in BORIGINS we saw a teenage Scott, but that was in the 70s remember...so they might be too young to be apart of this roster. There is one aspect I hope we all hope they not screw up or we know that Fox has sheer disregard for any or all kinds of continuity...and that aspect is BEAST....we remember in X2 that he was still Human looking, which was a small fan-service cameo and we saw he was blue and hairy in X3....so if we see him change into the blue and hairy version during the movie, then we can call foul on them. Now there is another roster member thats causing some hot debate....and thats Scott's brother HAVOK. Now we never seen Havok in any of the films and Scott in the 3/4 films has never made a single mention of his past including any mention that he had a brother. So in turn that gives the studio a free pass with allowing the character to be slightly altered but hopefully not butchered.

So in closing, we need to chill-out, take a step back, and look at all thats been tossed at us and give it more through looks. I see rants like this plenty of times. You guys did the same thing to Captain America and then Comic-con hit and you all changed your tune, this may be the same case. Have faith in this group, Matt Vaughn and Jane Goldman along with her epic boobs have created great films that appeal to both audiences mainstream and fan. I know you all yell and say that MARVEL and DISNEY should own the rights to make it good, but whats to say that MARVEL and DISNEY would make the films even better, whats to say that they made it wrong and made it a box office dud. Keep some faith with FOX and Vaughn along with this cast and crew. We should support that they are still making these films because they know what audiences want and they wanna see something cool and new. Hey so far they haven't announced any 3D plans...lets hope they keep that horrible concept away from the film, then the anger will reach hulk levels.

So thats all for now, Bring on the posts and comments. I hope this calmed some of the tension the others here have brought onto the site. Til next time Aki87 OUT!!!!!

if its a prequel to the first two films, why isn't scott & jean in it.

it makes perfect sense for them to be in it.

f*ck it,you won't change my mind fox ruined the x-men.

they had a chance to reboot it & get it right this time.

& guess what they failed.

R.I.P X-MEN BORN SEPTEMBER 1963 - DIED 3RD JUNE 2011

In wolverine prof x was bald. And he recruited Scott in his school. So this is obviously a class prior to that, right? As he has hair in this. And can walk.

@ leee777

i'd read my dads x-men comics growing up,when i started buying comics myself at thirteen, the first comic in my collection was uncanny x-men 205 way back in the 80s.

i'm passionate for these movies to be great & to be close to the source material that they're based on.

if you ask me its as far away from the source material that it can be.

f*ck fox !

marvel where unhappy with what ed norton did, when he made changes to the hulk script that he rewrote,i think it was something to do with the origin of the hulk.

just image what they think of foxs mistreatment of the x-men.

i find it hilarious the number of people who are like "lets boycott it, im not giving fox another dollar".

but the reality is, they're comic book fans, and they'll be first in line, even if they won't admit it

@adam...thats true, well thats because its a double standard we have in ourselves...we say one thing but do something else....all those who rant about it are gonna be first in line to see how they "ruined" their favorite characters

I'm excitted, I know I'll go see it because I loved what Singer did with X-Men and X2, and I'm excitted he is back to the francise he helped create. Plus, I loved Kick-Ass and Stardust, so I'm happy Mathew Vaughn is directing. So with thoses two talented filmmakers, I'm hoping for the best.

I knew it would be a prequel to films, so I knew First Class was going to be the First Class of the movie universe. I really wanted Cyclopes and Jean, but they aren't needed I guess. The mutants they have now are good and will be interesting to see them on screen. Singer always choose the mutants that would tell the best story and work well together. Beast, Darwin, Emma Frost, Tempest, Azazel, Mystique, Havok, and Banshee are all interesting choices and can't wait to see how they play out and tie together. They were chosen because their powers will best tell the story.

Out of all the series, X-Men is the one I want to be rebooted the least because the first two were so good, and even X3 and Wolverine were ok. So many stories and mutants to explore on film and to start all over again would be a waste.

@commanderhulk....glad to see someone with your levels of optimism on this subject

I don't see why all the bad blood with fans and Singer. Maybe they fell a little hurt that he left X-Men for Superman, but people loved the first two films and are still great and hold up even today.

I understand maybe after X3 and Wolverine they are hesitant, but with Singer back and Mathew Vaughn direct, we should have more faith.

You can't always adapt the straight source material, and need to move things around. The original five mutants were good in the comics, but wouldn't be as interesting together on film in the first film. The first film got the essential mutants we all wanted, Wolverine, Xavier, Cyclopes, Jean, Storm, Rouge, and Iceman. Each helped move the story forward and were important. Nightcrawler was a welcome editon in the 2nd film. Singer knows how to mix and match diffrent mutants from diffrent series and put them together and make them work.

I like the setting of the 60's, not only as a throwback to when the X-Men were first published, but also the backdrop with the civil rights movement is perfect because the X-Men were written as a way to intrest you people in the issues going on at the time, and to see how mutants have to fight for their place in the world. That's why Angel Salvador is a great choice because she is the ultimate minority, african american, a woman, and a mutant, and in the 60's is the perfect target for discrimnation and to rise up.

So again, like I said I'm excitted and will be their opening day. I'm just as excitted for this as I am Thor, Green Lantern, and Captain America.

@Aki87...thank you. And I'm glad you also are also still share my optimism.

People who like the X-Men films now and are excitted for X-Men First Class, are just like the mutants themselves, the minoirty and we are pursecuted and we feel hated for it. To quote the film Hellboy "If there's trouble, all us freaks have is each other."
