BOX OFFICE: THE BOURNE LEGACY Set To Take The #1 Spot From THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

The release of The Bourne Legacy was pushed back in order to keep the film out of the way of The Dark Knight Rises, and early tracking indicates that the decision may have paid off.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that The Bourne Legacy should have no trouble walking away with the #1 spot this weekend as The Dark Knight Rises looks set to battle it out with Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis' The Campaign. The reboot of the Bourne franchise sees Jeremy Renner taking over from Matt Damon's Jason Bourne as Aaron Cross, although events in the film run parallel to events seen in the previous instalments. Early tracking indicates that The Bourne Legacy will debut with around $40 million. The Bourne Identity (2002) opened to $27.1 million, The Bourne Supremacy (2004) opened to $52.3 million, and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) opened to $69.3 million.

The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: The Bourne Legacy. The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films. For The Bourne Legacy, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn reprise their roles.

STARRING:

Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross
Rachel Weisz as Stephanie Snyder
Edward Norton as Byer
Joan Allen as Pam Landy
David Strathairn as Noah Vosen
Albert Finney as Dr. Albert Hirsch
Scott Glenn as Ezra Kramer

RELEASE DATE: August 3rd 10th, 2012

I think TDKR deserves so much more money than its getting, but well what can you do.

Really really sad that Campaigns apparently better than Bourne, ugh what a disappointment.

@cipher so damn true my friend, I hate reading articles that mention TDKR or TA because all the dumb shit really comes out. I enjoyed both films as well as TASM and that's it box office take and all that other bullshit doesn't matter to me since i'm not getting a damn dime of it.

They're saying there's almost no action in this movie. That's kinda strange for a Bourne film.
Anyway, I'm not interested in looking at Renner's droopy eyebags for 2hrs.

I'll rent this, wait for SkyFall and in the mean time, hit up TDKR again.

The thing about Renner being genetically enhanced sounds dumb and the "events in the film run parallel to events seen in the previous instalments" seems to be a red flag for me.

The cool thing is that the existing trilogy is intact if this falls off.

Let's be honest, most likely this new Bourne film will take the number one spot, cause quite frankly many people have seen TDKR too many times than they probably should... Me myself I've seen it twice, and that's enough. Because truthfully even though TDKR is a great film, it's too long for just a casual movie goer. Not saying that's it too long like King Kong, but it's still long, but it's necessary long. I'm not saying the Bourne film is better than Batman or anything, but it looks to be quite entertaining. And it does take a realistic approach. Now since everyone knows about the people who made Jason Bourne, why wouldn't they try to kill off operatives who may or may not talk... And Hawkeye is a good actor... But I do miss Jason Bourne, but hey least he's mentioned in the film...

I guess Hawkeye is now a bonafide star?

I am really not that interested in seeing it in the theater, but the lady wants to see it. :-(

Looks like the first film all over except with different people playing the parts. Spy/assassin questions who he is...finds out he is a special project...meets girl...saves girl...falls for girl as they get chased all over the place. Been there, done that and got the t-shirt.

I think TDKR is doing great!
1 Billion$ worldwide is almost confirmed!
425+ in US!
I means 2nd MOST succesful WB film! Why on earth they'll complain!
1st is TDK... & at # 7 is INCEPTION!!
I think WB will be pretty happy with NOLAN!
He should now make a 200 Million$ R-Rated SCI-Fi like PROMETHEUS but with NOLAN Atleast lots of fans wouldn't be disappointed! (I'm not disappointed with Prometheus but lot of fans are)!! A daring R-Rated intellectual SciFi is now only made by NOLAN!!
DO IT NOLAN! Do it ... Please!!

On LEGACY ... I'm going to see it.. But what's shocking to me is to hear fan reviews about LACK of ACTION!
I thought TRANSFORMERS-3 taught Hollywood a great lesson!
Make a SHIT-Ass film but don't forget to have a 40+ mins Final ACTION set piece... If Bombed in US ... China, Japan, Korea & South America will make sure you'll make A LOT of money!!

& now i hear this BOURNE film is LACKING in what?... Action!
That's worse that making a bad film.
