JASON BOURNE: Matt Damon Hasn't Seen A Script Yet But Confirms He Hopes To Reprise Role In New Movie

Late last year, it was revealed that a new Bourne movie is in the works from All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger. Most fans had assumed that Matt Damon's time as the ex-CIA agent and Treadstone operative had reached its end, but it appears there's still at least one more story worth telling.

Bourne remains in hiding following the events of 2016's Jason Bourne but looks set to return to action in a new instalment which Damon has today broken his silence on.

"No details have been given to me," he reveals in the video below (via ActioNewz.com). "No, no, no. There’s a great director, named Edward Berger, who directed All Quiet on the Western Front. I don’t know if you saw it, it came out recently. Fantastic. A German director, he’s wonderful. And he said he had an idea. I would love to work with him!"

"So he’s working on it, so I’m looking, I’m as anxious as you are to see if this thing - I hope it’s great, and that we can do it," Damon continued, making it clear that it's still very early days for the movie. "At a certain point, someone is going to need to take it over. I’m not getting any younger."

If the actor, who first played Bourne in 2002, isn't happy with what Berger dreams up, then there's clearly still a chance he'll pass on the project. It doesn't sound like he's signed up for anything just yet, regardless, and the last time Damon turned down one of these movies, Jeremy Renner replaced him!

However, Aaron Cross remains M.I.A. and there's nothing to suggest a team-up is planned. It would be fun, though.

The Bourne franchise has so far consisted of five movies: The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, The Bourne Legacy, and Jason Bourne. Doug Liman helmed the first instalment, while Tony Gilroy stepped in for the Renner-led Legacy. However, it was Paul Greengrass who put the franchise on the map with his movies.

The Treadstone TV series didn't fare particularly well but franchise producer Frank Marshall first revealed way back in 2020 that he was looking for ways to resurrect the property in theaters.

"I do like the Bourne series, and I do think that’s an opportunity for different filmmakers to come in now. So, I’m hoping that we can find a new story for Bourne and a new filmmaker. We are looking."

Ah the Bourne franchise. On the one hand it gave us a few solid entries. On the other it introduced shaky cam to the world. Man how I hate shaky cam and over edited action scenes.

I think it’s best to leave this series alone or atleast until it’s rebooted with a new actor later down the line but oh well…

Atleast it seems like the director himself came to the studio & Damon with an idea to continue the story rather then the former trying to forcefully develop one so that’s good atleast (I haven’t seen AQOTWF yet but have heard good things about it).

Anyway if it happens , I hope it turns out well and atleast is better then the mediocrity of the last one.

I will see this no matter what.

The first 3 movies are maybe the best 3 part action movie ever made.

I wouldn't mind having another attempt at this franchise if they follow more closely to the books. While the movies were great (barring the the last two entries), it would be good seeing Carlos the Jackal as the main antagonist and Bourne take on the Commando. Just the first 3 books, Van lustbader's books fall short of Ludlum's

@Arthorious - If someone could approach the books to develop them as multi-Season arcs on a serialized way for TV like how they've done it with Reacher (or Bosch) then it'd be great.

@NinnesMBC - oh hell yeah! That would be awesome! That should be the direction they should go instead of doing more movies
