JASON BOURNE Producer Frank Marshall Is Hoping To Bring The Franchise Back For A Sixth Instalment

Attempts to extend the Bourne franchise beyond those initial four movies have been hit and miss, but producer Frank Marshall remains hopeful he can bring the series back to theaters. Check it out...

During a recent interview with Collider, veteran producer Frank Marshall has revealed that he hopes to bring the Bourne franchise back to the big screen. After a disastrous spinoff, The Bourne Legacy, starring Jeremy Renner crashed and burned, Matt Damon and filmmaker Paul Greengrass finally agreed to return for the commercially successful, but otherwise forgettable, Jason Bourne.

Since then, the franchise has come to television in the form of the now-cancelled Treadstone, so it's hard to imagine what direction it could be taken in moving forward, especially as Greengrass has made it clear that he's done, while actor Matt Damon seems reluctant to reprise the role again.

Despite this, Marshall still seems keen to bring in a new creative team. "I do like the Bourne series, and I do think that’s an opportunity for different filmmakers to come in now. So, I’m hoping that we can find a new story for Bourne and a new filmmaker. We are looking," he confirms.

It's hard to say whether the producer is talking about a full-blown reboot or bringing Damon back to reprise the role with a new filmmaker at the helm. Whatever the case may be, it's hard to say whether this is something moviegoers will respond to, especially as both The Bourne Legacy and Treadstone have proved that expanding this world isn't exactly as easy as you might think.

Are you guys hopeful for more Bourne?

The trilogy was awesome, but then Jason Bourne was pretty shitty. Bourne Legacy was really, really boring too.

@tmp3 - Vegas car chase was pretty wild though, even though they'd all have been smacked cold by airbags with the first 20 seconds.

Reboot and actually base them on the books since the only thing the Matt Damon movies borrowed were the names Jason Bourne and Tread Stone

There is clearly an interest to keep the franchise going. I own the Bourne trilogy on Blu-ray, but the last movie was such a let down.

I think it would be best for them to do a reboot. Matt Damon is not as young as he used to be, and it seems like he has moved on from the role.

Personally, I would love another Bourne game. If they are so interested in continuing the franchise, give fans an interactive adventure in the form of a AAA Bourne game.

Reboot this franchise. Give it a fresh new take and make it more sinister and deep state espionage.

The last one ruined what was a perfect trilogy.

I'd like to see Jeremy Renner brought back as Aaron Cross, to team up with Jason Bourne. I don't know if they would ever do that, but I would welcome it.

Why, So they can make the same movie yet again?

The last one was pretty bad. Didn't feel like a Bourne film, more like a revenge film which seemed out of character to me.
I actually liked Legacy with Jeremy Renner which I hope they make a sequel to.
