During a recent interview with Collider, veteran producer Frank Marshall has revealed that he hopes to bring the Bourne franchise back to the big screen. After a disastrous spinoff, The Bourne Legacy, starring Jeremy Renner crashed and burned, Matt Damon and filmmaker Paul Greengrass finally agreed to return for the commercially successful, but otherwise forgettable, Jason Bourne.
Since then, the franchise has come to television in the form of the now-cancelled Treadstone, so it's hard to imagine what direction it could be taken in moving forward, especially as Greengrass has made it clear that he's done, while actor Matt Damon seems reluctant to reprise the role again.
Despite this, Marshall still seems keen to bring in a new creative team. "I do like the Bourne series, and I do think that’s an opportunity for different filmmakers to come in now. So, I’m hoping that we can find a new story for Bourne and a new filmmaker. We are looking," he confirms.
It's hard to say whether the producer is talking about a full-blown reboot or bringing Damon back to reprise the role with a new filmmaker at the helm. Whatever the case may be, it's hard to say whether this is something moviegoers will respond to, especially as both The Bourne Legacy and Treadstone have proved that expanding this world isn't exactly as easy as you might think.
Are you guys hopeful for more Bourne?
