Brian Michael Bendis Takes To Twitter To Clear Up The Misconceptions About Recent Powers News

Hot on the heels of the announcement that FX execs mandated redevelopment and reshoots on their adaption of Bendis' Image/Icon comic, Powers, the writer himself took to Twitter to respond.

As Bendis states, this isn't bad news and is fairly common. If a studio views the pilot and truly doesn't like what they see, then they completely pull the plug, not spend more money. Case in point, the failed Wonder Woman show from David E. Kelley was so bad the execs felt that even reshoots wouldn't save it.

Powers is an American creator-owned police procedural comic book series by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Avon Oeming. The series' first volume was published by Image Comics from 2000 to 2004. In 2004 the series moved to Marvel Comics as a part of its Icon imprint.

Combining the genres of superhero fantasy, crime noir and the police procedural, the series follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, assigned to investigate cases involving people with superhuman abilities, who are referred to colloquially as "powers".

That's what I was telling everyone. This happens all the time. The fact that they are spending more money to nail Powers lets us know it's heading in the right direction.

Hmm I hope it works, but the Locke and Key Pilot was god damn impressive and that got passed over. I'll believe it when I see it.

locke and key should end up on fx as well. Fx purchased all those different comic book titles 3 or 4 months ago, locke and key is damn good. it is written by joe hill, steven kings son, so it is in the genes.

Off the top of my head:

Star Trek - Shot completely new pilot replacing nearly every actor and with a completely different story.

Gilligan's Island - Reshot much of the pilot, replacing half of the cast with new actors and gave it a new, better theme song.

Birds of Prey - Replaced main villain in pilot with another actress.

Smallville - Replaced Ma Kent in pilot with another actress.

I'm sure there are many other pilots of shows that were then picked up after they had to change things so I wouldn't put much on this news.
