James Bond website MI6 has learned that Thomas Newman - who has scored films such as Road To Perdition and The Shawshank Redemption - has replaced David Arnold as the composer of Sam Mendes' upcoming Bond film Skyfall, set to be released this November. Arnold, who's worked on every Bond film since 1997's Tomorrow Never Dies, will apparently be too busy to score the latest film, due to his being the London Olympics musical director. Newman has worked with director Mendes before, on films such as Revolutionary Road and American Beauty.

MI6 understands that American composer Thomas Newman will be scoring the new James Bond film, "Skyfall", due out later this year. Regular series composer David Arnold, who has scored five James Bond entries from "Tomorrow Never Dies" (1997) through to "Quantum of Solace" (2008) will be busy in 2012 as he is the London Olympics musical director.

Skyfall is set to hit theaters November 9th, later this year.

I don't know Thomas Newman's work but he can't be any worse than eric serra. Just use the James Bond theme alot and he'll be alright.

Well there goes any hope I had that the Bond theme would be actually used again. I love Newman, but there's no way he's going to put the Bond theme back into things. Annoys the hell out of me that they seem to be purposely not doing as much Bond related things as possible in these new movies...like screwing up the gunbarrels, no "Bond, James Bond", no "shaken, not stirred", virtually no Bond theme usage, calling M "mom" more than M. I am a fan of Newman, though, so we'll see...

@Toekneemango,

'Bond, James bond' was in Casino Royale.

I'm not a fan of broad strokes and assumptions, so I don't understand how you can judge Newmans's work on Skyfall when he hast even started yet.

Speaking of broad strikes, Casino Royale is probably one of the best Bond films in a longtime. So don't let Quantum of Solace ruin your perspective on Daniel Craig's Bond films. Craig even said that 'Quantum' was a misfire. Just because that movie sucks doesn't mean 'Casino' all of a sudden sucks too.

he doesn't call her mom, he calls her ma'am,

Quantum was a misfire because of the writers strike, they went into filming with a half baked script, Skyfall has had a few years and a lot of passion behind it, and I'm sure everyone involved wants to get the series back on track.
