Despite spending a decade in development hell, a big screen adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Marc Andreyko's Torso is finally moving ahead according to The Hollywood Reporter. David Lowery, who recently received a great deal of critical film for Sundance film Ain't Them Bodies Saints, will write and direct the graphic novel which was released in the late 90s. According to the site, it tells: "The true story of Elliot Ness' time after his Al Capone days, when he moved to Cleveland and got embroiled in the hunt of serial killer who was leaving torsos in the river and taunting notes to police." David Fincher was at one point attached to direct, but his desire to shoot the movie in black and white and the high budget meant that Paramount scrapped the film and the rights eventually ended up reverting to Bendis and Andreyko. It will now instead be a lower budget indie movie that, "will aim to be a high-minded, period serial killer movie."

Wow, look at this project brought back from the dead. Sadly, we'll never know what the David Fincher/Matt Damon incarnation would have looked like (well.... awesome is a start), but I'm just glad there's finally some traction on this. Here's hoping there's some follow through this time around.

This is actually a really great story. The truth of this when studied is some really spooky stuff. Even possible links with the Black Dahlia. Thank God they are taking this one seriously....this could prove to be one freaked out movie...plus its true!

Could be creepy movie if made right. :)

I think they have to get some big star for the role of Ness thou to be successful and get into theaters. Common people´s focus nowadays seems to be big stars and mindblowing special effects. So many indie films doesnt get into theaters even some of them are pretty great.

so finally this project's a go. good. can't wait to see the casting. i hope they either cast someone, relatively unknown (a la Kevin Costner in The Untouchables) but with the right ingredients, or someone who we know can do the role justice, like let's say: Josh Brolin or Joel Edgerton.
