FANTASTIC FOUR Star Miles Teller Joins Tom Cruise In TOP GUN: MAVERICK

It sounds like Mission: Impossible - Fallout star Tom Cruise has found his new co-pilot in Fantastic Four and Whiplash star Miles Teller, who will play the son of the legendary Goose in Top Gun: Maverick.

Variety is reporting that Miles Teller has joined the cast of Paramount Pictures & Skydance's Top Gun: Maverick as Goose's (Anthony Edwards) son and Maverick's (Tom Cruise) new protege. He beat out fellow up-and-comers Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: Dark Phoenix) and Glen Powell (Set It Up) for the highly-coveted part.

3x Academy Award-nominee Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible - Fallout) will return to headline the upcoming action feature, reprising arguably his most iconic role to date as Pete Mitchell, a.k.a. Maverick. The report also confirms that Val Kilmer (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) will indeed return as Tom Kazansky, a.k.a. Iceman.

Joe Kosinski (Oblivion; Only The Brave; Tron: Legacy) is directing with a script from Peter Craig (The Town), Justin Marks (The Jungle Book), and Eric Warren Singer (American Hustle). Jerry Bruckheimer is back onboard as a producer alongside Cruise and David Ellison.

While production began at the beginning of June with Cruise filming scenes on a very familiar motorcyle, this is the first major casting news we've received, which likely suggests that they're inching closer and closer to finalizing the cast before they really delve deep into principal photography. Plot details remain under wraps for now, but the film will reportedly be set in a world of drone technology and fifth generation fighters and will also explore the end of the era of dogfighting.

Teller is probably best known to comic book movie fans for starring as Dr. Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic in Josh Trank's critically and commercially disappointing Fantastic Four reboot and for his role as Peter Hayes in the Divergent series. His more prominent credits, however, include The Spectacular Now, Whiplash, That Awkward Moment, Two Night Stand, Get A JobWar Dogs, Bleed For This, Only The Brave, and Thank You For Your Service.

Top Gun: Maverick flies into theaters July 12, 2019.

Did anyone else read Fantastic Four in the headline and began to think that Marvel was finally developing a F4 film, no, just me.

Can't stand the guy...

He was hilariously bad in Fant4stic. Then I tried to watch Whiplash (as I heard great things about the film) and turned it off after 25 mins because of him.

Not a good casting choice in such a classic franchise sequel, imo.

Teller's character should be that guy everyone wants to punch right in his damn face. It's the role he was born to play.

He had a leg up on the other guys who were in the running, as he recently worked with Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski on the 2017 film, Only the Brave.

If the role is the son of Goose, maybe they should've cast Ryan GOSLING.
Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all night.

Love Miles teller and absolutely love the original Top Gun, but Glen Powell would have been a better choice to carry on Goose (as his son).

This is gospel. For those who haven't seen it, it'll make you watch the movie differently. I hope they don't lose that subtle subject matter and this doesn't turn out to be a generic soft reboot/sequel. It's strange but it really makes the first one unique.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - what’s funny to me about that is how he says Kelly McGillis represents heterosexuality because in real life she’s been in a same sex marriage for about the past 10years.
