Following their long-running and much-publicized feud stemming back to the production of The Fate of the Furious, it looks like Vin Diesel is ready to let their troubled past go and forge a new future, as he's very publicly reached out to his former co-star and friend Dwayne Johnson via Instagram, asking him to return for the final two chapters in The Fast Saga.
In his statement, he says, "My little brother Dwayne... the time has come. The world awaits the finale of Fast 10. As you know, my children refer to you as Uncle Dwayne in my house. There is not a holiday that goes by that they and you don’t send well wishes... but the time has come. Legacy awaits. I told you years ago that I was going to fulfill my promise to Pablo. I swore that we would reach and manifest the best Fast in the finale that is 10! I say this out of love... but you must show up, do not leave the franchise idle you have a very important role to play. Hobbs can’t be played by no other. I hope that you rise to the occasion and fulfill your destiny."
He specifically asks Johnson to return for Fast 10, but considering that movie is expected to be the first half of a two-part finale, it's probably safe to assume that he'd want Johnson for both Fast 10 and Fast 11, which are tentatively scheduled to begin filming back-to-back in January 2022.
This is an unexpected wrinkle in the ongoing back-and-forth between the two action stars, and it's unclear how Johnson will respond. The last time we heard from him back in August, he said pretty definitively that he wouldn't be back for the end of the franchise, but maybe the public outcry could change his mind.
However, whether or not he'll have available shooting dates remains to be seen as he continues to be one of the most in-demand actors working today/ It does seem like he has an opening in his schedule for the time being, though, having recently wrapped on Warner Bros./New Line's Black Adam.
Fast 10 is currently scheduled to open in theaters on April 7, 2023.
