When Iron Man 3 released it received wide spread critical acclaim. Most critics adored the film and its bold direction and stronger focus on the man inside the suit, which is fair, the movie does a good job of deconstructing Tony Stark. Fans on the other hand were less than impressed. We didn't come to watch Tony be Tony (although he is quite funny the movie is called IRON MAN!) and Tony spends a good portion of this film outside his suits. Iron Man 3 under the direction of Shane Black, see Tony have to face his demons, demons he created as he journeys to discover who he is without the suits. A strong and bold idea that may well have worked if they hadn't screwed up the 2nd act "twist".

The twist that rocked the MCU and even the most steadfast of fans, was when Iron Man's greatest foe, The Mandarin, was revealed to be a laughing stock. A joke. They used Ben Kingsley as a punchline. When I first watched this movie in the cinemas I honestly checked out from that point onwards. In rewatching the movie to review it though, something changed. Aspects of the film I once frowned upon I saw in a different light. it didn't greatly change my overall opinion of the film but I can definitely see more than I once did.
