Deadline reports that Valiant Entertainment and producer Sean Daniel (The Mummy) have teamed up to bring Shadowman to the big screen. J. Michael Straczynski, best known for his work on Babylon 5 and Amazing Spider-Man, has signed up to write the script. According to the site, the film's logline is as follows: "The forces of darkness are determined to claim New Orleans as their own, and Jack Boniface must accept the legacy he was born to uphold, in order to stop them. As Shadowman, Jack is about to become the only thing that stands between his city and an army of unspeakable monstrosities from beyond the night. He must pay a high price and master his new abilities before Master Darque brings down the wall between reality and the eldritch darkness of the Deadside."

"Shadowman is a character who lives in a unique world that mixes the modern world with that which is most ancient within us," Straczynski said in a statement. "The New Orleans vibe and history, and the struggle to find a balance with the personality within him, is a perfect dramatic vehicle. We’ve already finished the outline and there’s a lot of action, much of it unique to what Shadowman can do…but at the core of it, there’s a strong character, world and mythology that can be explored across multiple subsequent films. This is gonna be fun." A new Shadowman series is set to be released this November from the creative team of Patrick Zircher and Justin Jordan. Do you guys think the character will translate well to the big screen? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

Wait, Shadowman was a comic book? Oh wow, I played the video games and I had no idea they were based on an actual comic.

@marvel72 There was actually two. :)

The first one was great, but hard as hell. Pun intended. The sequel wasn't as good, but it was still a fun game.

I hope it makes it all the way to the big screen. Would be awesome. I'm sure they'll use the newest version. Issue #1 comes out in November from the new Valiant Comics! Summer of Valiant has been great so far. X-O Manowar started in May, Harbinger in June, Bloodshot in July, and Archer & Armstrong in August. Now Shadowman #1 coming out in November. You want people that care about the story in their comics, then check out the new Valiant. 2 fans who worked hard to buy the rights and put together a multi year plan to start publishing comics again and now on to the silver screen hopefully!

I still have the first rune of the first volume of Shadowman, under the original Valiant imprint, much of it penned and illustrated by Bob Hall of Iron Man fame. It is very, very, very good stuff, especially the early issues. And no guys, Acclaim bought those properties after 92 when everything went south in comics on account of the market glut. It was hard at that time to find good writing and art, and Shadowman stood out among a lot of the garbage that Valiant put out (Marvel, D.C., and Image were just as guilty at that time, of course). J.M.S. took on the character because he recognizes quality. Shadowman is kind of a New Orleans version of Batman, and yes friends, the original character, Jack Boniface, was African American.
