Michael Fassbender Addresses James Bond Casting Suggestions!

Set visits and reviews for X-Men: First Class have all seemingly had one thing in common. And that is the comparison to Michael Fassbender's early portrayal of Erik Lensehrr to that of James Bond. Well, Screen Rant have now posted an excerpt from the movies press conference (which took place in New York earlier today) in which the Irish actor finally addresses the suggestions and speculation that he should play 007.

Screen Rant: There’s a lot of Sean Connery-style James Bond stuff going on in First Class and you seem very at home in that role. Once Daniel Craig’s tenure as Bond is over, would you be interested in taking over for him?

Lucas Till (the actor who plays Havoc): Yes, he would!

(Laughter from the cast)

Michael Fassbender: You know … I don’t know. I really don’t plan anything ever because it never seems to work. I’m just [like] – let’s just get this film out and see how this one does. And I’m sort of in the middle of doing [Ridley Scott’s Prometheus]. And, you know, Daniel [Craig] is doing a great job. We’ll see what happens. I’m very flattered that people are sort of making that link, but – I don’t know. We’ll see.

X-Men: First Class is set to be released in the UK on June 1st and in the US on June 2nd.

He opens his mouth when he talks, so he's already a step up from Daniel Craig in that category. And I'm not sure, but I think Fassbender might be capable of smiling without looking like he's taking a dump, as well. That's another he's got over Craig.

craig is perfect as bond - so close to the character in the actual books, but i think fassbender could pull it off too - would like a few more with craig first though

He'd make an awesome Bond. I want Craig to stay on as long as possible, at least to get this Quantum storyline all figured out. Still can't believe Fassbender was the killer dude from 300. Multi faceted actor for sure.

Daniel Craig: 43 years (March 2, 1968)

Michael Fassbender: 34 years (April 2, 1977)

one or two more for DC, and then perfect transition plan!

make it happen, um, Hollywood!

I'm sure they were saying Daniel Craig was going to walk away after next Bond and i'd already said Fassbender would be ideal for 007!! He's also been linked to a part in the new film version of The Professionals, which should equally kick major butt!!

After seeing his role in Inglorious Basters, I can say that I honestly think he would be a great James Bond.

They should at least finish the current storyline with Daniel Craig as Bond first (revenge for Vesper Lynd's death) before they think of replacing him. He plays the character much closer to the novels despite not looking the part like previous actors.
But Fass would be a perfect replacement, not only would he play the role to a tee, like Craig, but he's also the spitting image of how Flemming imagined Bond to look when he first created the character

He'd make a great Bond but I personally would prefer Clive Owen to replace Daniel Craig, since they sort of look alike.

Fassbender would make a great Bond. I was tired of Daniel Craig as soon as I returned "Casino Royale" to Blockbuster.

He'd be great. He's handsome but not too much so he could do lots of stuff. I think he'd have been a great Bruce Banner.

Something about him Is Han Soloesque to me. It'd be cool to see him in a heroic role.

even back in Inglourious Basterds, i thought Fassbender's gonna make a very cool Bond. however...his Bond would be a throwback to Connery's cool Bond days. i'm not sure if that would suit today's climate.

and i thought the whole reason for Daniel's casting was to reINVENT the franchise and not repeating what's been done. Fassbender would make a cool casting choice if it happened BEFORE Daniel Craig. but, i dunno....
