Here's some extremely exciting news to take you into the weekend, as director Chris McQuarrie has revealed that Hayley Atwell (
Avengers: Endgame;
Captain America: The First Avenger) has joined the cast of Tom Cruise's highly-anticipated
Mission: Impossible 7.
McQuarrie made the announcement tonight on
Instagram with a photo of the fan-favorite actress and the following caption, "
Should you choose to accept..." Atwell was quick to reply, "
Mission: Accepted. Though I'm not the sort to follow orders..."
Further details on her role are being kept under lock-and-key at the IMF for now, but that cheeky interaction could seemingly suggest that she may not be a friend to Ethan Hunt and company when they embark on their next death-defying adventure.
Atwell joins both 3x Academy Award-nominee Tom Cruise (
Top Gun: Maverick) and fellow returning star Rebecca Ferguson (
Mission: Impossible - Fallout) for the seventh installment, which is due out in theaters on July 23, 2021, and possibly for the eighth installment, which is due out in theaters August 5, 2022, although an appearance in the latter depends on whether her character makes it out of her first mission alive.

Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett, and Vanessa Kirby also join the dynamic cast with filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm.
