Quentin Tarantino Shuts Down Questions About Violence In DJANGO UNCHAINED

Be sure to have a look at this video interview, in which UK journalist Krishnan Guru-Murthy tries to get the director to discuss the perceived link between the bloody carnage his movies and real-life violence. "I'm shutting your butt down!"..

As is always the case when a violent film opens up in a similar time frame to some real-life tragedy, questions are raised about the links between the two. Quentin Tarantino has already fielded quite a few questions on the issue in previous interviews, but while promoting Django Unchained (which contains some particularly brutal scenes) in the UK, Channel 4's Krishnan Guru-Murthy tries to get him to readdress the issue..to no avail! Tarantino flat out refuses to answer. “Don’t ask me a question like that. I’m not biting. I refuse your question,” he says. “I’m not your slave and you’re not my master. You can’t make me dance to your tune. I’m not a monkey.” Skip to around the 4 minute mark to see it kick off..

What do you make of this? Do you blame Tarantino or do you take Guru-Murthy's point that it is a news programme he is hosting, and should ask the harder questions?

Channel 4 news is the best news program on UK tv, they do explore the situation more fairly than say BBC or ITN, but Krishnan is being a dick here, he kept going and going and going until Tarantino snapped, I think it was unacceptable do try this on a well respected director who will be remembered beyond alot of modern directors, its not as if he is a benefit cheat with 11 kids, that fun to watch then rip into scum, but this was just pure sensationalism, next John Snow will be on Fox News

Videogames, movies, TV, music, and even guns don't have anything to do with people becoming deranged and violent. I'm not saying there aren't some bad eggs who will use those things for violence, but a gun is an inanimate object and those other things are mediums of entertainment. Pharmaceutical drugs, toxic substances, bad parenting, and inaction from schools and teachers to do something to prevent school shootings--- that's what we should be focusing on and going after.

I watch QT movies because they're well-written. I enjoy the story and most of all the dialogue. Violence is a part of it, yes, but I don't get off on it. Some of it is downright disturbing but it's part of the story he's trying to tell. The world can be a nasty place, and it's that world that QT chooses to write about.

If some mentally disturbed individual can't distinguish between a movie and a real act of violence it's not QT, or any filmmaker's fault, or their responsibility. Not at all.

The sensationalism of the media makes me sick. All this idiot wanted was a controversial sound bite. What an ass clown. This kind of irresponsible finger pointing leads to censorship.

I like Krishnan, but he shouldn't have kept going on about it. Maybe ask another time or two, but to keep badgering when it's clear Tarantino wasn't going to budge was rather unfair of him.

It's funny when people try to blame movies, video games,and/or comics for the rise of violence. What really cause violence are people who were wronged in life(i.e.bullied,raped,or victumize in some, way, shape or form)or people who beleive they were wronged (i.e.stress at work caused by the person own incompetent or told to do something they have to do because they are suppose to do it).

If anything adds to more real life violence like the sandy shootings its the medias coverage of it. You can get your name all over the news get tons of media coverage and be remembered forever. For a crazy person that would seem like pretty attractive way to go out.

QT certainly lives up to his reputation with reporters. Definitely not afraid to speak his mind, and neither is Krishnan Guru-Murthy. Unfortunately Krishnan Guru-Murthy is on the wrong side of objective reporting, and QT is dangerously genre-savvy.

I haven't seen Django Unchained yet. I want to, but it's not on my list of priorities right now.

And yes, QT is a certifiable dick. He knows it, and he seems to embrace it. Doesn't make his movies any different.

JustHereForTheBoom - 1/10/2013, 3:51 PM
Part of the reason why Django Unchained was such an effective movie was was because it DIDN'T pull any punches with the violence, particularly with its depiction of slavery as being horrible and brutal as all [frick].

What's wrong with being a dick? Sometimes you need a dick in entertainment to wake you up?
Okay that didn't sound right; but sometimes you need a jerk to be willing to push the line, because not a lot of people are not afraid to push the boundary like QT. That's why I'm such a fan of QT.

This feels like a scene of a movie. And every time something like this shows up, the reporter is likeable because their usually a funny character. but, i agree with Tarantino. THIS IS BULLSH*T. THE MAN EVEN SAYS HE'S A FAN. AND FRANKLY I WOULD NOT BELIEVE HIM BECAUSE OF HOW HE IS ACTING. I LOVE TARANTINO'S WORKS. I DON'T LIKE VIOLENCE MYSELF. BUT THE IDEA OF VIOLENCE IN A MOVIE, SPECIALLY SUPERHEROES, IS THAT IF'S FUNNY. VIOLENCE IS A SATIRE TOPIC. THE MOVIES ARE A FANTASY AND SOME DIRECTORS MIGHT WANT TO EXPLORE THE QUESTIONS IN MIND. WHAT IF? WHAT COULD HAPPEN TO A CHARACTERS FUTURE? ECT. AGAIN WHAT IF ITS TRUE OR NOT, HE SAID HE LOVES HIS FILMS, IF SO, DON'T BRING IT UP.

LONG LIVE TARANTINO AND OTHER WONDERING FILM MAKERS.

while i agree with QT's message about violence there as a better way of getting across his refusal to answer the question without sounding like a grade A douchebag.
