This was a scenario that has been speculated upon in the past when rumors of Ralph Fiennes becoming the next M surfaced a few months back.

Skyfall, Craig's third outing as James Bond will be released on October 26, 2012. Daniel Craig will be joined by Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, as well as a Judi Dench as M.

Excellent warnings of the spoiler in the article - kudos! The inbred yokels in the comments section, however have made that redundant! Well done!

Such a shame but she's had a fantastic run, i wouldn't be surprised if Judi Dench turned out to be the head of the real Mi5 she's that good at her role.

No! I loved that character!! Dench is an amazing actress and brought class and real sense of Britishness to the films.

Natural really to replace her.

Gives this new film a bit of an edge, with revenge.

@Why would Ralph take M's role if it's of no importance?

1: Because it's a role in a major franchise that he can typically film in about a week and gets him both a paycheck and exposure. Why WOULDN'T you take that part? What's the downside?

2: If they're killing off Dench's M, it would seem that the character's level of importance in the franchise is about to get quite the boost.

Bgg1175: I was thinking the same thing- Craig sure is looking elderly in that last shot. Is he now taking his martinis with a shot of Geritol?

I'm sorry to hear that they're killing off Dench's M, but it sounds like she's ready to retire. I just hope the filmmakers have a little class in how they do it.

The highlighting text was pretty cool but the skull & crossbones over her pic made highlighting the text unecessary.

Poor Mrs. Dench I really like her as an actress : (

Last time I checked Bond wasn't immortal and he didn't have the infinity formula, he was perfectly human. So I think he allowed to age. Bond's meant to be a man not some twilighty hearthrob. Long as Craig stays in shape let the guy lay the character as long as he physically can.

FASSBENDER FOR BOND WITH NOLAN AS THE DIRECTOR

Damn! I really wished Fiennes would play a bad guy but oh well... he rules still. Gonna miss Dench thou.
Albert Finney who´s in the film too would have been good replacement.

Craig said not so long ago that he is gonna be Bond as long as he can so i think we are still gonna see at least two Bond films with him.

I predicted that since the moment i heard Mendes was attached to the project. Either Bond has to kill M (she has betrayed the organization) or Bardem kills her (Bardem will be working for the real villain, Fiennes--Blofeld in disguise), but I figured M would have to go this time around. Most likely Fiennes is going to take over M16 as a result, and at the end, be revealed to be Blofeld, leader of Quantum or whatever. Fiennes will have Bardem killed at the end after Bond captures him, and Bardem will realize he's been betrayed by the man he trusted as his boss.

@PatientZero you do realise Craigs version is more or less a reboot, hell any time a new bond is choosen the series gets a soft reboot so trying to piece together the continuity might be kinda futile my friend.

And after Craig is done Fass"schlong"bender as Bond FTW. I mean the 1st half first class was essentially his audition tape for the role.

If this is true, this will send Bond down an even darker route that he has never been before.

Dench has been a good M. I still like Bernard Lee.

This is shaping up to be a spec-damn-tacular movie.

eh...one good bond film, one bad film so there's nothing at stake for me here personally. The only other Bond films i watched were Goldfinger and The Man with the Golden Gun (just because Christopher lee is so awesome in everything he does).

@batfan175: This women also played the character in four bond movies prior to Casino Royale.

@PatientZero

Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, and now Skyfall have no relation to the previous movies. Casino Royale was a reboot, in the same way Batman Begins was a reboot.
