SHERLOCK HOLMES 3 Release Date Has Been Delayed A Year; Will Now Debut December 2021

Bringing Robert Downey Jr. back to a role he's been playing nearly as long as Tony Stark, Sherlock Holmes 3 will see both him & Jude Law return as Holmes & Watson, in what'll hopefully be a worthy sequel.

It's no secret that Sherlock Holmes 3 has been in development hell for around a decade. With the last sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, hitting theaters late 2011, it seems as though Warner Bros. has had a hard time getting it off the ground.

Due to the business and scheduling conflicts of both Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr., it has been a hot minute since they appeared as the iconic literary duo on the big screen. Last year it was announced that they are officially on board for a third installment, but according to the latest reports, we'll have to wait a year loinger to see it.

According to Deadline, Sherlock Holmes 3 has changed its release date, shifting from a December 2020 debut to Christmas 2021. To be exact, the film will make its way into theaters December 22, 2021, in direct competition with Wicked, Hotel Transylvania 4 and Avatar 3.

The reasons behind the changes are unknown, but the news came with intriguing details. The studio has made way for an untitled live-action event film to replace Holmes' Christmas 2020 date - The Trench, perhaps?

I don't mind them taking their time. The competition is weak so far that weekend. I really like Sherlock Holmes, especially this version.

@KWilly - But he could play Holmes well into old age, if he wanted to.

I'm down to see another Holmes movie with RDJ and Jude Law. I really dug the style of the first two movies and they have a real banger of a soundtrack!

At this point, it's just weird to see RDJ in any other role other than Stark.

I didn't even know this was still going to happen, but if it does, I'm cool with it. I liked the first two.

They should recast the roles with Will Ferrell as Sherlock and John C. Reilly as Watson. I could definitely see them working perfectly in those roles and am sure it would guarantee just as much box office success.

Shame if it never happens, really enjoyed the first 2 especially one. Really like RDJ's Holmes but all fail to compare to Benedicts portrayal.

For some reason I want to see this more because i watched Tag last night. Renner's character had that Sherlock/Equalizer thought process thing. I need both Denzel and Renner in the next installment.
