SICARIO Director Denis Villeneuve Expresses An Interest In Helming A BOND Movie

Denis Villeneuve is the talent behind the likes of Enemy, Prisoners and the highly-touted action/thriller Sicario. Though he's currently working on a sequel to Blade Runner, the French-Canadian filmmaker has expressed an interest in directing a Bond movie one day...

Denis Villeneuve is one of the most exciting talents behind the camera at the moment. After stunning audiences with Prisoners and perplexing them with the deeply psychological Enemy, he's delved into the action genre this month with the phenomenal Sicario. When asked by Coming Soon whether he preferred making 'genre films', the French-Canadian maestro brought up his love of James Bond and expressed a desire to helm a Bond movie one day:

"It’s strange, because I understand that each genre has its own specific rules, but for me, they are all movies. I’m just attracted to try to do different things, and I was very excited to make a movie that required more action. I was raised with James Bond. I love James Bond movies. I would love to do a James Bond movie one day. Action is very cinematic. I’m not someone that loves dialogue – I am someone that loves movement. Action, if it’s well done, can be very poetic and meaningful."

With Skyfall director Sam Mendes set to depart the popular spy franchise following the release of Spectre this fall, MGM will be looking for a worthy candidate to replace him. However, with Blade Runner 2 next on his busy schedule, it may be a while before that dream can become a reality. Do you think Villeneuve's a good fit for Bond - and if not, then who? Sound off below!

Spectre will be released October 26 in the UK and November 6 in the US. In the meantime, be sure to catch Sicario in theatres this weekend - it's worth it, I promise!

And he should damn well get it! Sicario is numero uno for the year - either tied or just edging out Fury Road for top place.

Can we have a less boring direction for the next Bond films please?

Based on Prisoners (the only film of his I've seen) - absolutely. He'd be a great fit, think we'd get some serious Casino Royale vibes from him, which is a very good thing. Can't wait to see Sicario when I get the chance.

He's one of my favorite directors so I'd be up for that.

Oh and actually he's got another sci fi movie called Story of Your Life coming up next with Amy Adams.

@Minty- I knew they starting filming that back in June but didn't know it was already into Post Production. WOW!he said he needed to do a couple of" lighter" movies after doing Incendies/Prisoners/Enemy/Sicario pretty much back to back.

Sicario was unbelievably good. Miles ahead of anything I've seen this year, including Black Mass, which was very underwhelming.

Go see it as soon as you can. It wasn't really on my watch list, and I only knew the stars and the basic premise (Mexican cartels). The less you know going in, the better. I saw the trailer afterward, and honestly, it spoils way more than it should.

I'm interested in not getting goosed at Comic-Con next year by BatmanHeis...but we don't always get what we want, do we?

Ambassador is my witness that BatmanHeis is the ginger Bill Cosby.

Also screw Ambassador for leaving me with him as I slept in the Hall H line. My ass felt like a pin cushion the next morning.

@DamienA - I know man, he's on fire atm. At this rate we could have that Blade Runner sequel as early as 2017. And yeah, I can't wait to see what he does with a lighter sci-fi flick

Remember him being linked to Terminator Genisys and wishing that he was chosen.
Would be a great director for bond.

There hasn't been a real Bond film since Die Another Day. Maybe this director can pull the franchise off of Jason Bourne's nuts and get it back on track.

This would actually be a pretty good idea. Sicario was a great movie. I can't remember the last time I saw a movie that was constantly building tension for the entire duration of the film like that. I could see his Bond movie being along the lines of the more raw visual style of Quantum of Solace which I don't think is a bad thing at all.
