The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Academy Award-nominee Jake Gyllenhaal (Spider-Man: Far From Home; Nightcrawler) has signed on to star and produce New Republic's upcoming heist thriller Cut & Run, which is based on an original screenplay from John Glenn (Eagle Eye, Law Abiding Citizen).
In the same vein as his upcoming Michael Bay actioner Ambulance, the new project will also be a heist movie, though it sounds like it'll be taking the action to the water as its logline reads, “A group of thieves using high-powered speedboats to rob superyachts steal the wrong thing from the wrong group of people.”
Cut & Run is just the latest in a long line of new projects Gyllenhaal has commited to in recent months, having recently signed on for a live-action adaptation of Oblivion Song, Sam Hargrave's Prophet adaptation and the next Guy Ritchie venture The Interpreter, which commenced filming this past Monday.
He's also in various stages of development on at least a dozen other projects.
Gyllenhaal was most recently seen in Antoine Fuqua's Netflix drama The Guilty, and also appeared via archive footage in Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios' mega-blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home. He can be seen again on the silver screen this coming April 8 in Ambulance, which co-stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen; Aquaman) and Eiza González (Baby Driver; Godzilla vs. Kong).
