STEELHEART: A Battle Against Supervillains

STEELHEART: A Battle Against Supervillains

Superheroes and supervillains are cropping up everywhere, including the forthcoming novel already being developed as a feature film, Steelheart, written by Brandon Sanderson. To be published later this year, Steelheart is the first in a planned series of adventures.

Deadline describes Steelheart's scenario as follows: "Set in the near future, right after the dawn in which a select few, called Epics, develop super powers, a nine year-old sees his father wound the allegedly invincible Steelheart, the high Epic who seizes control of their city. After the weakened Steelheart kills the boy’s father, the kid ten year later joins a secret resistance movement who assassinate Super Villains. Using his knowledge of Steelheart’s weakness, he helps take down the leaders."

The movie version of Steelheart will be produced by Anthony Rhulen and Navid McIlhargey of FilmEngine and Donald Mustard of Chair Entertainment. Expect the book to arrive from Random House's Delacorte Press.

Nope, not a graphic novel, but a subject that would be of interest to CBM readers in much the way Chronicle was.

I took a writing class from Brandon a few couple years ago and he let me read an outline for this--he mentioned that he was looking to make it into a movie perhaps even over making it a novel. It's cool that he's aiming for both. I can't wait to see the finished product--the outline alone was quite riveting. :)

Brandon Sanderson is the man. AMOL is going to be epic and the first book in his Way of Kings saga was excellent. Not to mention the Mistborn series.

The first book of this series is pretty much already finished. I had the opportunity to read an advanced readers copy of it last year, and it is pretty awesome. Not at all typical of what Brandon usually writes, but still in his writing style. They have been discussing the book in his writing group for the past little bit.
The basic premise of the book is that at some point in history a select few people developed different super powers. The problem, however, is that everybody that develops those powers inevitabley starts to see normal people as inferior and they turn bad and power hungry. This power struggle basically ruins the entire society as we know it, and these "Epics" are constantly fighting each other to gain control over more resources and cities. So, this secret society of assassins goes out to kill these Epics, because they are all evil, but these guys don't have super powers, so it is kind of a reverse super hero novel.
It was actually because of this novel that I started reading Mistborn, and then started with WOT. I am pretty sure that the CBM community will enjoy the book, and hopefully the movie adaptation will be good as well.
