Variety is reporting that up-and-coming actress Monica Barbaro (UnREAL; Splitting Up Together) has joined the cast of Paramount's Top Gun: Maverick as a fighter pilot and love interest to Miles Teller, who is playing the son of Goose (Anthony Edwards).
Hot on the heels of Kroll's report, Deadline shared their own story that also confirmed the additions of Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit), Charles Parnell (A Million Little Pieces), Jay Ellis (Insecure), Bashir Salahuddin (GLOW), and Danny Ramirez (Assassination Nation). McKenzie is playing the daughter of Jennifer Connelly's character, Parnell is playing an admiral, Ellis is playing a pilot, Salahuddin is playing an engineer, and Ramirez is playing a pilot.
The sextet joins a cast headlined by returning 3x Academy Award-nominated superstar Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible - Fallout), who is joined in his latest cinematic adventure by Val Kilmer (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), Jennifer Connelly (Only The Brave), Miles Teller (Whiplash), and Glen Powell (Set It Up).
Joe Kosinski (Oblivion; Only The Brave; Tron: Legacy) is directing with a script from Peter Craig (The Town), Justin Marks (The Jungle Book), and Eric Warren Singer (American Hustle). Jerry Bruckheimer is back on board as a producer alongside Cruise and David Ellison.
While production began at the beginning of June with Cruise filming scenes on a very familiar motorcycle, principal photography is not expected to begin with the entire cast until early next month. Plot details remain under wraps for now, but the film will reportedly be set in a world of drone technology and fifth generation fighters and will also explore the end of the era of dogfighting.
Additionally, Collider's Jeff Sneider shared a casting breakdown on Twitter, confirming that Powell is indeed playing a character with the call sign Slayer.
