With
Val Kilmer reportedly set to return as “Iceman” in
Top Gun: Maverick, there are at least two more boxes to check off to ensure it’s a worthy sequel: another beach volleyball scene and some kickass tunes. With the help of Kenny Loggins, we may get the latter.
Speaking to TMZ, Loggins, the original performer of
Danger Zone, revealed that he has already spoken to actor Tom Cruise about re-recording the song that was featured prominently in the 1980s hit. However, it sounds like if that does happen, there will be a slight twist to it. Loggins revealed that he’s looking at collaborating with a “young act” to make this new version of
Danger Zone a duet.
“I met Tom Cruise on [The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon], and I asked him that question," Loggins said, referring to bringing back
Danger Zone for the sequel.
"He said, ‘Of course, we have to use Danger Zone.’ So I’m hoping to do it, maybe as a duet with a young act. I’d love to work with, well, there’s young and then there’s young.”
“We have some feelers out to some pretty cool rock acts,” Loggins continued, adding that the potential partner is a male performer/group. Unfortunately, he didn’t provide any more clues.
Loggins also added that he wants to do a walk-on in the movie, though he acknowledges that probably won’t happen. But, hey, having
Danger Zone 2.0 sounds pretty freaking sweet at least.
Top Gun: Maverick opens in theaters on June 12, 2019.
