The Batman is set to cross the $500 million mark at the worldwide box office this week, and thanks to IGN, we now have some new concept art from Matt Reeves' DC Comics adaptation.

Taken from the "Art of" book that's just been released, we get a closer look at the Batsuit donned by Robert Pattinson in the movie, along with the wingsuit his Bruce Wayne used to fly through Gotham City's imposing skyline. As we saw in the movie, this Dark Knight didn't have the smoothest of landings - a reminder that the vigilante is still in a very early stage of his vigilante career.

One piece of artwork actually leans a little more heavily into the comic books with that classic shot of Batman using his cape to swoop through his home.

Elsewhere, we get some awesome shots of Gotham, the new Batsuit, and even the Grapnel Gun that proves to be a vital part of the Caped Crusader's arsenal. We're anticipating seeing even more from the movie over the coming weeks, but for now, a full gallery of concept art can be found at the link above!

The Batman is currently playing in theaters worldwide.

I still don't fully understand how the wingsuit was assembled so quickly. Cool sequence though, but a bit short.

@UniqNo - the wing suit was cool and I liked how he had that look like he wasn’t sure if it was going to work or not.

@WruceBayne - Oh yeah, he was scared and i really liked them showing that side of Batman.

@UniqNo - same with him changing t Bruce Wayne and Batman so quickly with backpack on him whole time.,

@dragon316 - Maybe i need to watch it again, but it also seemed that it only showed him doing it from the torso up. Like how did he lock in his cape etc? it's technical and prob shouldn't bother me, but they grounded it so much, it would be cool if they commited to an explnation. I'm sure they have done, but wasn't clear in the sequence. The concept art does shed some light.

@UniqNo - Look at him when he is on his bike as "the drifter". He is all bulked up because he has the suit on underneath.
At least, that's what I think & I'm gonna run with it...!

Should’ve got the gliding cape. How the wing suit worked doesn’t make much sense so why not just have him use the bat winged-shaped glider at that point.

So those were actual straps on his gauntlets 🤔 I remember seeing them wobble in the movie and thinking lol.....but they're straps that look like the normal gauntlet hooks

The gadgets that Batman utilizes are problematic at best. Reeves Dark Knight utilizes a grappling gun that ejects from his wrist guards. Based on this design that means the rope spools from somewhere in his costume which seems unfeasible given that the cord which would measure 50 to 100 feet or more would have to unspool at a hyper speed seering whatever it is touching which in this case would be Pattinson’s arm.

In addition, Pattinson uses a wing suit to glide off the tops of buildings. This is in contrast to the Christopher Nolan (and even Tim Burton) heroes that utlized their capes as a make shift gliding wing. Accepting the physics of all of these gliding methods, Bale and Keaton’s version would function like a hang glider. Pattinson’s, on the other hand functioned like any standard wingsuit. Therein lies the problem! While hang gliders can coast in for a safe landing, a wingsuit has to deploy their parachutes and float the rest of the way to the ground -- they simply can't reduce their speed fast enough for a safe landing without the use of a chute.

...making Pattinson;s suit a danger to himself as was demonstrated in the film. The use of these gadgets call into question why an engineering “genius” would use these devices.

This is supposed to be the best iteration of Batman?

@Waddles - But! People keep arguing that this is MORE grounded than other Batman films. You are essentially admitting it is not if I have to stretch my suspension of disbelief to the same extent that I have to for other Batman films.

@Waddles - Sorry! I hope I did not influence your experience. i will state that Gotham looks amazing. I found it strange that it was unrealistic and realistic at the same time. Like it is a city i have never seen before, but I could see a city like that being in this world.

My own disclosure...I want DC to move away from the wacky and zany world of comics and embrace the grounded approach. It would distinguish them from Marvel and thus far that approach has never lost money for them. They are starting to do this with Dune which the director describes as Star Wars for adults. Likewise WB (I think) should be a comic book movie studio for adults which the grounded films have done successfully so far.

@Forthas - Whoever is arguing this is most grounded Batman must be exclusively basing it on the Batmobile just being a car, Bruce not having batarangs & that he makes mistakes (Bale was more or less full fledged from the moment he donned the cowl). It's not anymore grounded than the Nolan films and Gotham itself feels more fantastical than Nolan's did so to me it feels slightly less grounded.

@Forthas - The concept art shows the spool comes from the grapple itself, not from anywhere in the body (the round bit near the end).

The fact the wrist grapples are good enough to carry him and not just useful in combat does call into question why he even carry's the bigger leg one. The grapple guns have never been big enough to realistically carry enough rope for the heights/distances Batman uses it for, so there's no point questioning it's size & the physics behind it.

@1stDalek - I kind of agree with you. Nolan's films had its fair share fantastical items - but they offered an explanation for how it worked in most cases whether it was the sonar vision, flexible cape for gliding, or the reason for developing the Tumbler.

SPOILER ALERT

The Batman has him taking a bomb to the face without any injury, having contact lens cameras, a liquid which can instantly give him strength without any explanantion. That is no way MORE grounded than Nolan's films.

Forthas - 3/15/2022, 3:42 PM
@1stDalek - Well I was not thinking the rope was in the gun itself even if the spool is- as you suggest it is too small to hold a 100 foot rope. I therefore assumed it was housed on Batman. If it is the case that it is supposed to be in the spool then you are right , I guess that is no different than the grapple gun other Batmen have used. Like you stated they are ALL too small for the rope.

@Forthas - I agree, Lucius explaining to Bruce how all of his equipment worked & why it was made, like Q in a James Bond film, along with the industrial design of the equipment helped ground it. It does cross the line at times, like the batcycle shooting out of the Tumbler, but Nolan did a lot to make it feel grounded in our world.

He also took the massive fall in the 3rd act and got up like it was nothing. The amount of punishment Battinson can take is insane.

Forthas - 3/15/2022, 4:15 PM
@1stDalek - Someone pointed out that the film takes place over about a week. So Pattinson was in an explosion, had a massive crash from his glide off the building, took rapid machine gun fire at two separate times, was in several fights with multiple people, and was electrocuted. But at no time had no serious injuries...

Like in TDK when he took a dive out of the penthouse to save Rachel. Landed on top of a car with Rachel on top of him. Nah, he's fine...!👍

The best looking batsuit. The one thing i'd love to see improved upon is some more pronounced gauntlet spikes. They are essential to Batman's silhouette imo, but they were hardly noticeable in the film

I get the practicality of the wingsuit but it looked doofy.
