CATWOMAN Star Halle Berry Reveals Why She Chose To Accept Her Razzie For The Movie In Person

The Razzies don't really generate the sort of attention they once did, but Halle Berry showing up in 2005 to receive her "Worst Actress" award made a lot of headlines. Now, she's explained her attendance.

The Razzies, or Golden Raspberry Awards, are meant to celebrate the worst that Hollywood has to offer. The ceremony has waned in popularity in recent years, but way back in 2005, it was a big deal when Halle Berry decided to accept her "Worst Actress" gong in person for starring in Catwoman

It was a funny moment, and one people still talk about to this day. For Berry, though, the decision to accept an award many would feel embarrassed by was a good opportunity to poke fun at herself.

"Well, I went to the Razzies because, you know, I feel like...we all take ourselves so seriously, if we get an award, if we get the Oscar, we somehow are made to feel like we're somehow better than everybody else, but we're really not," she tells Vanity Fair (via Screen Rant). "You know, you were just chosen that year by your peers and you were acknowledged for doing what they considered stellar work, but are you better than the next person who didn't get that award? No, not at all."

"So if you find yourself face to face with a Razzie, does that mean you're the worst actor there ever was? Probably not, you just got the piss taken out of you that year by a group of people that can. I decided to just take it all in jest, not take myself too seriously, and if I can show up to collect an Oscar when you're honoring me, I can certainly show up to collect a Razzie when you say, 'Good try, but do better.' I always learned that if you can't be a good loser, then you don't deserve to be a good winner, so I went there, made fun of myself, I had a great time...and then I set that thing on fire!"

Berry clearly took the entire situation in her stride, and it would be refreshing to see more actors show this sort of humble, tongue in cheek attitude to any misfires they might make in their careers. The actress has always spoken positively about Catwoman for the most part, of course, even recently revealing that she would love to be involved with a potential reimagining of the character.

That seems unlikely with Zoe Kravitz taking on the role in The Batman for Matt Reeves, but you never know what sort of surprises the Multiverse will deliver (especially with The Flash on the way).

As for Berry, she's an Oscar winner, so probably isn't sweating that Razzie too much...
