Teasers for Stranger Things Season 4 appear to introduce a new group called The Hellfire Club, seemingly led by Gaten Matarazzo's Dustin Henderson. Is this simply his new D&D group, or is there more to it?

The official social media accounts for Stranger Things have dropped some new teasers and a set photo referencing a new group by the name of "The Hellfire Club." The club is represented by a satanic demon head.

We don't quite know what The Hellfire Club is, but the set photos suggest that Gaten Matarazzo's Dustin Henderson is president. The addition of some polyhedral dice, a flaming sword, and a morning star alongside the symbol suggests the club could be related to Dungeons and Dragons. With Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Will (Noah Schnapp), and Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) having moved out of Hawkins, Indiana, perhaps The Hellfire Club is Dustin's new D&D group.

The new teaser comes exactly one year after Netflix shared the title of Season 4's first episode, "Chapter One: The Hellfire Club." You may also recall that the very first episode of the series saw Dustin and Will racing on their bikes to get a copy of Uncanny X-Men #134, in which the heroic mutants retaliate against The Hellfire Club with the Phoenix.

It's not hard to see the symbolism being referenced here, especially since Eleven had her very own Dark Phoenix-like moment at the end of the second season. However, in this case, seeing as how Dustin is apparently president of The Hellfire Club, it feels like this is more of an homage to '80s culture than actual plot spoilers. We can't imagine Dustin is leading a sinister group of elites trying to manipulate and control Eleven.

it’s not the demogorgon. happy #strangerthingsday

Production on Season 4 of Stranger Things began in February but went on hiatus due to the coronavirus. The time off apparently helped the Duffer Brothers craft their best scripts yet, giving them additional time to edit, tweak, and rewrite parts of the story.

There's still no release date for Stranger Things Season 4, but these new photos suggest we could start seeing more teasers from the set.
