The 3-D animated movie based on children's building blocks grossed an estimated $17.5M to $18M on Friday and is estimated to have a healthy 3-day total of $60M+. Currently it has a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Which means the film is nearly loved by all critics. Though there are four critics who gave the film a rotten score. I'm sure they were the weird kids growing up who preferred playing with LEGO's rivals, Playmobil and K'Nex. But critics aren't the only ones enjoying the film, audiences have bestowed an 'A' Cinemascore upon it. Good word-of-mouth should provide it with legs. Coming in second this weekend, The Monuments Men. It grossed an estimated $7M yesterday and is expected to have a surprisingly-respectable $22M 3-day total. Even with an all-star cast, critics marked it with a disappointing 33% “rotten” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences seemed to enjoyed it more, earning it a firm B+ Cinemascore. The other new film this weekend, Vampire Academy had a miserable debut with an estimated $1.6M on Friday. That'll land the film in seventh place and is expected to have a 3-day cume of $4.5M. Don't expect the film pick up any steam from word-of-mouth, audiences gave it a lackluster B- Cinemascore.

“The LEGO® Movie,” the first-ever, full-length theatrical LEGO® adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures, opens in theaters February 7, 2014. Directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller (“21 Jump Street,” “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”), it stars Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie and Charlie Day, with Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman.

The original 3D computer animated story follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

I saw this last night. Wow. So much more than I was expecting. Its easily one of my favorite animated movies. The creativity and originality on display in the movie is pretty staggering. One of the most surprising things about it is how effective the jokes are. They are actually funny, and they come at such a fast rate. This movie might be bigger than Frozen when all is said and done. I know ill be seeing it again.

I'm actually hoping that "World's Finest" (or whatever they're calling it) blows this so far out of the water that it's dry by the time it lands!!

So now we don't need live action movies to sell toys. F--k that!

All we need is movies about the toys to sell the toys!

Scrap 'Avengers 2 Age Of Consent Of Ultron' and 'Man Of Steel: Delayed In Darkness' and just make movies about their toys.

I just have a problem with the animation. Only thing keeping me from spending money on this film. They have Ninjago and Legend of Chima, and managed to have this "crappy" animation (crappy compared to those shows) for a hollywood movie.

Maybe this is stop-motion.... thats whats causing the crappy fluidness of the animation.... still is no excuse

BEWARE SPOILERS!
How much do you think they had to pay to use SW?
Since it's owned by Disney..."

I'm pretty they didn't pay anything. And if they did, it wasn't a lot. Lego owns some sort of rights to just about everything on Earth lol
