CLONE WARS Developer Says New Animated STAR WARS Show On The Way

It's not all bad Star Wars news these days. The supervising director for Star Wars: The Clone Wars says he's staying at Lucasfilm Animation to work on a new animated series.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars supervising director, Dave Filoni, says there's a new animated Star Wars program on the horizon. The interview, conducted with RebelForceRadio.com was conducted after the news of massive layoffs so rest assured something is in the works. It appears Disney is merely looking to put their own identity on Star Wars rather than do away with animated ventures all together. Said Filoni on the layoffs, "It’s a function of our industry… It’s not my favorite part. You can luckily grow things and bring on many talented people, but there become times when you have to shrink things as well. We happen to be in one of those times right now, but that just paves the way, hopefully, for new things and new creativity in the future."

Regarding the new series, Filoni shared that things are still in the early stages. "At this point, I am involved in some early production discussions and exploration of what we’ll be doing with Star Wars animation in the future, which is really exciting for me and I have some friendly faces around me, of course, that are helping me on the project. So it’s a transition time, as I’ve said before, and I think it will lead to an exciting time and hopefully I’ll see things grow again.”

No details on who the characters would be, whether it would be a continuation of The Clone Wars or even where the new series will take place in the Star Wars timeline. But there's SOMETHING coming down the pipeline and I'm sure we'll be hearing new details sooner rather than later.

After the 5th season finale of Clone Wars on Cartoon Network the series was cancelled. It's 'assumed' a 6th season will air on Disney but not confirmed.

Count me excited! Honestly I was a little confused when they announced the Clone Wars, which was set in an era that had already been heavily explored.

Good news. CW had its moments. Season 5 finale was somewhat weak. Not entirely sure why Maul was brought back. Served no purpose. In general the show was all over the place and in my opinion not really accurate with what really happened during that period of time between II and III. Hoping this "new" animated series features Han Solo and Chewie adventures, Bounty Hunters or is set after ROTJ

I hope it deals with where the feature film series is going and they can get something out well before then so we have some type of taste of how the Star Wars universe will evolve, per canon.

how about a tv series about a mixture of the Old Republic and Return of The Jedi, do it Lost-style, we see Luke setting up the Jedi Order again shortly after "ROTJ" and we see in flashbacks, the beginnings of the Jedi and it shows how events of the past influenced events of the present. Then we get the best of both worlds. Get a series of it completed before the new Star Wars movie comes out so we can see what Luke was up to and get Mark Hamill to voice him!

How about a Cartoon that focuses on Kyle Katarn's character? Or maybe an Anime KOTOR series? And you can't tell me that Anime wouldn't work for Star Wars, especially after you see this...
