Chris Pratt put himself on the map by playing Andy Dwyer in Parks and Recreation, but he's since become a bona fide Hollywood megastar after taking on lead roles in the Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers, and Jurassic World franchises.
However, we've also seen the actor make his mark in the animated realm, lending his voice to The LEGO Movie, Pixar's Onward and, perhaps most controversially, The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Pratt managed to prove the haters wrong with his take on Mario, though the video game icon isn't the only iconic character he's set to play. Next up? Everyone's favourite lasagne-loving cat, Garfield. Created as a comic strip by Jim Davis in 1978, Bill Murray previously lent his voice to the furry feline, so we're undeniably intrigued to see how Pratt's approach differs.
The animated Garfield reboot was first announced way back in 2016, and after multiple delays, a new look at the iconic cat was revealed this past weekend (via Toonado.com) to celebrate National Cat Day. You can take a closer look at this upcoming movie's take on the character below.
That looks like Garfield, alright, and we're sure Pratt has something unique planned to make this role his own. It might not be long before we find out what this is because the movie has been dated for a May 24, 2024 release and we're guessing a trailer will be with us before the holidays.
Alongside Pratt, Garfield's impressive ensemble includes Samuel L. Jackson (who has been cast as Garfield's father, marking the first time we've met that character in any media), Nicholas Hoult, Hannah Waddingham, Cecily Strong, Ving Rhames, Brett Goldstein, and Bowen Yang.
Mark Dindal (The Emperor's New Groove) directs the movie from a screenplay by David Reynolds (Finding Nemo).
Last year, the Guardians of the Galaxy star took to Twitter/X to tease the project when he said, "Get ready for some Garfield! Coming to theaters on President’s Day weekend 2024. Finally, a Monday you’re not going to hate! I have been deep in research on this one. Mostly eating lasagna. But also licking myself clean."
