Great stuff. I really liked it too, best since WW I thought. Problems were not enough screen time for GL, a few dodgy lines.."Aquaman, be careful, they are much stronger than you"..wtf? But I thought all of the voice work was good..some great. Awesome fight scenes..particularly Owlman v Batman..and what a final line from Bats!

Interesting review Jman (& Johnny Love). I will be checking this out soon. Thanks

How is Mark Harmon as Supes? I've always liked him as an actor but never saw him as Superman.

Well i just bought Public Enemies this weekend and i'd really like to know what the problem was with it. Cause i sure as hell liked it. I'd say that the only thing that bugged me was the japanese kid. Bats could have built that thing himself. But other than that, Bats was Bats and Sups was Sups. They were friends but didn't seem as "buddy/buddy" as everyone is making them out to be. And it practically was the only time Lex Luthor didn't bother me as the main villain. IMO, it was a stellar animated feature. Haven't seen Crisis yet but i really hope it's not going to be another one of these instances were people generally fluff up the bad and ignore the good. Although... if there is any truth to the rumour of Bats being everyone's bitch... it's gonna suck!

Well Shaman, its easier if I give my thoughts on Public Enemies through the power of review!:)

Shaman- TOTALLY AGREE! Public Enemies was AWESOME, I
thought that Kid was kinda funny..With
LOOKing at Power Girl with his X-ray goggles!
the whole film was GREAT!

Great review guys! I can't wait to BUY this!

William Baldwin FINALLY GOT WORK LOL! But I too will
miss CONROY but I'm sure he will be BACK!

ROR- PIMP AWAY!..are you going to review Shutter Island?
If NOT check MINE out! In the REVIEWS section
of course...PIMPED!

Tea- LOL

Ror- COOL, i probably already read it but i can't remember so i'll read it again :))

peterparker420- Yeah, the whole looking at the boobs thing was cool and appropriate but the thing is the kid himself was annoying as [frick] and unnecessary. I freakin' hate smart kids and superheroes having to depend on them. It's just not something that i appreciate. It's just lame. But the rest of the film was how every thing DC should have been from the start IMO. The animation was my favorite so far although Crisis' looks even better. But FINALY the characters weren't blocky!!! In Crisis they look it a bit but not enough to bother me as much as any DC tv series before (aside from "The Batman"). I prefer smoother lines and curves, thank you ;)

Thanks Jman1977: You guys are awesome with your video reviews and this one definitely got me pumped! The only thing was I listned to your review, I didn't want to see any of the opening footage cause it felt like a spoiler.Anyways, awesome review guys, can't wait to see your next video.

SHAMAN- I see what you're saying about the KID..I mean
The world's greatest detective, and the worlds
greatest hero, have to ask for a 12 year olds
help? I understand. Yes the animation was
crystals!..And this movie looks even better!
That Metallo fight scene was awesome!

Jman- I must say I disagree with one thing you said
CGI movie is better than Animation..NO WAY!
ANIMATION IS WAY BETTER! HAND DRAWN..On the
computor..but still HAND DRAWN!..LOL, but to
each there own! :)

Ror- Just re-read your PE review and although you do raise some good points, i guess i'm just a little less... what's the word??? ..."extreme"? Certain things just didn't bother me. Like Powergirl being more naive than in the comics. Since she was the only one that felt Sups wasn't crazy (asides from bats of course), she was just smack dab in the middle of a dilema where she just didn't know what to think. I don't think it would have been beyond her but she did have this "little girl" vibe that is way more "Supergirl" than Powergirl. But hey, it was still nice to see her animated :) The voices could have been a bit off when compared to the previous series but with the little dialog, it didn't stroke me the wrong way. Too much fighting? Not for me. It's what i was expecting since they were two against the DCU. So i was satisfied with that. As for the story, i'm just not sure they could have added that much more to it even if they had the time to. It could have felt unnecessary. The rough language (beeped or not) was flat out unnecessary. It took me out of it but at least it was only two instances. As for the "you're my best friend" line, he meant as in he's the ONLY friend he has. So that was taken out of context. They didn't grab each other's asses in it like everyone is making it out to be.

So i guess my opinion is affected by me not having seen Wonder Woman or First Flight yet. I wanted to grab Wonder Woman with PE but there were none left so i settled for Ong Bak 2 instead (haven't watched it yet). And i'll have to agree with you on the animation, it is by far the best i've seen of DC yet!!! So all in all, i think it deserves a 4 stars out of 5. The only thing i'd give a 5 stars for DC is on their "The Batman" animated series. Not even the first animated series.

peterparker420- I also agree with you on animation. I prefer it to CGI. I mean, i like CGI for certain things but not everything. Superheroes look weird in CGI. I even thought Batman looked weird in Arkham Asylum. I prefer "Ultimate Spider-man"(video game) type of animation for superheroes either in films or video games. I mean, it worked for the turtles but, Casey and April were a bit off because of it.

SHAMAN @ PE was [frick]ing awesome man, don't matter what anyone says, that animated movie was pure gold!!!

Pity MARVEL took so long to take note, with DC's animated's and are playing catch up!

Don't get me wrong, I still liked Public Enemies, I just didn't think it was up to DC's standard up to that. Didn't hook me in like WW, GL, New Frontier, Gotham Knights..or even Doomsday, so I felt I had to reflect that in the rating.

Crisis totally hooked me..I loved every minute of it(bar the bits I didn't:). I didn't bother with a review but its a definite 4/5 from me anyway.
Shaman
Shaman - 2/22/2010, 10:36 AM
Ror- REALLY??? That's kinda cool to know. So is it over dramatising to say that Batman is everyone's bitch?

And i haven't seen WW GL and New Frontier. HATED doomsday but i did enjoy Gotham Knight. Well... a few of the shorts ;) Best one was "Crossfire" hands down :))

I also agree that if it didn't hook you in, then your rating was accurate! It was a bloody good review ;)

Crossfire was the best. Some of the stories weren't that great, I just loved all of the different style used.

Well, Batman fights 2 much more powerful enemies in it, they give him a sound beating, but he comes out on top at the end..so he's actually no ones bitch! Plus, there is a great flirty sort of scrap with Super Woman..she considers keeping him as her sex slave!..I may actually yield to that...

SUPERMAN/DOOMSDAY..BEST ANIMATED MOVIE DC HAS EVER DONE!

Anil-The fight scenes are EPIC..Story..GREAT. Animation
perfect!..what was not to like about it?
GL: first Flight?..now that was BAD!..FRONTIER
was awesome! Gotham Knight..I liked SOME of that.
I havn't seen WW, but want to!

thwhtGuardian - 2/22/2010, 11:18 AM
I think my problem with public enemies is similar to my problem with doomsday, I loved the comic it was based off of...and the movie just fails to capture the nuances of the story and instead boils it down to just a series of fight scenes. They were good fight scenes but the book was more. I liked it better than doomsday though.
Shaman
Shaman - 2/22/2010, 11:22 AM
thwhtGuardian- I guess i liked it so much since i never read the book. It could explain it.

peterparker420- This is what's wrong with Superman Doomsday:

If you follow the book as canon, you'll ultimately hate it. But i watched it a second time hoping it would be better if i expected it NOT to follow the book. The story in itself was decent. The fight scene was awesome BUT it should have at the very least been a third of the movie. It lasted roughly 10 minutes. Sups has endured longer challenges that were almost as tough as Doomsday before. I'm sure both Superman and Doomsday would've had better stamina. The fight should have lasted a whole afternoon but translated to film to fit 20 to 25 minutes. So that was a big let down. It was also the worst look for Superman i had ever seen! He was unrecognisable!!! I thought his animated series didn't show him justice physically, being blocky and all, but this was oceans worse!!! As for Lex, he was decent but Clancy was even better in PE. What really screwed it up for me, oddly enough, was Anne Heche as Lois Lane! She sucked so much she took me out of the film every single time she spoke! It was aweful. And then, switching Superboy/Eradicator/Cyborg/Steel for a mere clone of Superman wouldn't have bothered me IF "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" wouldn't have overdone that plot more times than i could count! So since i was a big fan of that TV show as well as the Reign of Supermen storyline in the comics, it was completely blown for me. The process of Sups' fall and rebirth was too rushed to make us really care for it aswell. So all in all, it was a really bad film that was supposed to adapt the most famous storyline ever.

Anil Rickly- What sucked about PE? I'd just like to know.

Ror- Yes, all the different styles used were awesome to behold in Gotham Knight :)

Aw well that's not all that bad. As long as he always wins, i'm okay with Batman making others think they are winning all along. And yes, i would totally YIELD LOL :P
peterparker420
peterparker420 - 2/22/2010, 11:36 AM
SHAMAN- VERY nice points you made there!..I agree with
the LOOK of supes was WAY OFF..and yes I wanted
the fight scene to last longer. Lex was GREAT
in doomsday and has the best quote ever.
"there comes a time, when even gods must die"
that line alone was awesome. YES, LOIS voice
acting was off..worst cast ever? maybe. you're
right about the clone thing?..Reign of superman
was great storyline!..Man I'm just agreeing with
you WHAT THE HELL? Maybe is should watch that
movie again?..Maybe I just liked the fighting
so much.. I didn't care about the story? I have
to watch it again!
Shaman
Shaman - 2/22/2010, 11:43 AM
peterparker420- LOL Well... The fight scene, although short, was the most spectacular fight ever done by DC on screen. So that alone could have made it the best for you ;) And you're right, that line was indeed awesome :))

Nut up Parker420

You were right the first time.

Doomsday was tight. Better than the bland and rather disappointing Public Enemas, Better than the flat as nine year old girl second half of GL, and I even found it to be better than most of Gotham Knights. Which was up and down for me. It wasn't in line with the "cannon" so to speak, but if you have to compare storylines to Lois and Clark then I don't know what to tell you.
Shaman
Shaman - 2/22/2010, 1:42 PM
Billy- Dude, if i found the "plot" as lame on "Lois & CLark", then why would i enjoy the same plot in an animated film? Cause it wasn't anymore brilliant. "Superboy" is a fresh and cool "clone plot", not a flat out identical clone. It's been done so many times in the past in so many ways that it makes it totally bland and unoriginal. Same thing with avatar. They "could" have given the plot fresh twists to make it more entertaining but they didn't. Neither did "Superman: Doomsday" and it's actually worse in their case since they had a critically acclaimed blueprint; "Reign of the Supermen". Comparing it to a "Lois & Clark" episode doesn't take away any of my credibility cause in reality it takes it away from the animated film. The fact that they opted with a fully cheesed out concept when they had a tried, tested & true pillar to work with is nothing short of retarded. The film was an enjoyable waste.

Geez Shaman

You seem pretty vested in Lois and Clark. ^_^ No need to jump into super defense mode bro. You're credibilty wasn't called into question by anyone but you. Your taste on the other hand, is another matter. And that's all this is, a question of taste. I thought Doomsday was excellent in comparisson to some of the more recent films. It wasn't just "good fight scenes", it was brutal. Lex was at his best, and better than he's been in any of the recent films. Tho voiced by the great Clancy Brown in PE, you can't deny the performance was flat. Doomsday's Lex was unforgiving, killing Mercy to cover his tracks and even controlling the cures of some of Earths deadliest viruses and diseases for his own personal gain. You complain that the "cannon" wasn't followed closely enough, but then bash it for being too much like other storylines involving cloning Superman. I'm not saying it wasn't. But it worked for me. A superboy clone? That, to me, sounds like a "fully cheesed out concept" which may work for a Smallville or Lois and Clark, but not for what Doomsday was going for. I thought the movie was DC animated's most "adult" film to date. They didn't shy away from any of the ruthlessness that was needed. Spending a third of the movie on a fight between Doomsday and Superman would've been exactly what would've made that movie nothing but "a good fight scene", leaving very little time to develop anything else. I also think Doomsday has better replay value than ANY of the other animated features, save for Return of the Joker. I don't expect you to agree, just don't bite my head off when you reply ;)

You're my boy Shaman. Wasn't disrespecting, just givin my take. Now give us a kiss and lets not be so angry ^.^

BillyBlack-WHAT! I can't agree with someone after making

I still consider it the BEST animated movie
DC ever made...Well it will be untill
IDENTITY CRISIS comes out..If it does!

Do what you like, Parker.

It just sounded to me like you were back steppin a bit. Like you started feelin it was just one good fight scene. I could be wrong. I've been wrong plenty of times before. I'll be wrong again at some point. It's your opinion man, I'm not saying you can't agree with him. I just didn't hear you defend your opinion at all, and that's the only thing in this world that is truly yours. That's all I'm saying. But do what you like.

Sorry if I came off as a douchebag, not my intention.

There is one thing that I will agree with you 100%. The design of Superman was totally off. It was the one thing about the film I truly did not like. I got over it, I didn't think it was a deal breaker, but you were spot on with that assessment. I didn't think Anne Hash was terrible. She's no Dana Delaney, but who is? ;)
