After a long wait, we finally got to see the first episode of Beware the Batman this weekend. This is a bold new take on the character, but is it any good? Click here to find out what I thought about it.

Lets start with the animation. I like it. CG animation is not the worst in my opinion. It looks clean on a good T.V. screen, almost 3D.

My main gripe with this show is the villians. Pig and Toad were the villians in this episode and I have to say they annoyed the crap out of me. Their motive for kidnapping the rich people of Gotham is revenge for the animals who's homes were destroyed when Gotham was built. Ummmm Okay that's funkin stupid, how old is Gotham? Anyway I think Pig isn't so bad, he kind of looks like a guy in pig mask. But Toad? No reason is given why a giant british toad is running around with sonic croaking abilities. I know Batman doesnt have the best villians, but this is just lazyness if you ask me. I hope they get a little more original in the future. I understand they want to introduce new villians, but cmon these two were terrible ones to launch the series.

Now for my opinion on another big change in the mythos. Alfred is a much younger, hardcore ex secret agent, who is Bruce Waynes bodyguard. I for one kind of like this Alfred. The frail old man stiching up Batman and making him soup is replaced by a guy who keeps Bruce on his toes and can do some work in the field if he has to. In the comics Alfred is an ex MI-6 agent, but they never go into that part of his life very much. Durring the episode his leg is broken and in the end he admits that he indeed is getting too old to be a bodyguard. I assume this is where he takes on the butler role. But he does replace himself with a female agent from his past. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

Batman gets his ass whooped a little more than he should in this episode, but at least they show us he is still young and learning how to be Batman. The car is cool of course, and so are his other gadgets. They didn't change him much from the Batman we all know and love.

The action was cool for the most part. Lots of explosions and a cool scene where the batmobile gets blasted by a canon and does some gnarly flips. The opening fight scene between Batman and some comon street thugs is classic Batman, and I loved every second of it.

All in all I am personally glad they made the show. Sure other characters deserve their time in the spot light, but I think Batman is in a league of his own. So he should have a show no matter what. Just give him some villians that are not so corny. I would even be happy with him taking out street gangs and Mob bosses as long as they do it right. I give Beware the Batman 8/10. Gotta admit I was suprised. I thought I would hate it.
