STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS Voice Actor Tom Kane Has Suffered A Stroke & May Be Forced To Retire

Whether you're a fan of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, The Powerpuff Girls, The WIld Thornberrys or several other shows and video games, there's a good chance you'll have heard the voice of Tom Kane. From Yoda to Admiral Yularen to Admiral Ackbar, Mr. Kane has brought many well-loved characters to life over the course of his 30-year career.

Sadly, he recently suffered a personal tragedy that may affect his future.

His daughter has confirmed that the actor had stroke, and may be forced to retire as a result.

"Hi everyone! This is Tom’s daughter, Sam. Our family wanted to share why my dad has been MIA. About two months ago he had a left side stroke that gave him right sided weakness and damage to the speech center of his brain. This means right now he cannot efficiently communicate verbally, nor read or spell. He is still competent and very much himself, but can only get out a few words right now. As many of you might know about strokes, it is possible for him to gain these functions back and we have found him excellent care in Kansas City for speech, occupational, and physical therapy, but for now, we have been warned by his Neurologist that he may not do Voiceovers again.

My dad still remains in good spirits and his extreme stubbornness has helped him already show improvements in speech. He is fully on board with me sharing this and he will see anything you guys post.

Lots of love from our family to yours."

Some sad news, but let's hope he recovers. We all wish Mr. Kane well during this difficult time.

That’s a damn shame. Above all I hope he’s ok, and then I hope he’s able to recover enough to continue work

@Ha1frican - I'm sure he'll recover enough to keep doing voice work. People recover enough from strokes to keep doing work all the time.

I hope he can recover enough to keep voicing characters. He was the best voice for Magneto and Yoda.

Hope he gets better soon. Mad respect to him for calling out Disney on their mistreatment of Ackbar.

This year just doesn't let up, does it? I hope he continues to recover and is able to get back into voice work against any and all odds.

It's brutal enough to have gone through such an awful medical emergency, but for it to specifically damage the part of you that you've built a career around is an extra layer of cruelty.

It's possible to fully regain your speech after a stroke so hopefully he can recover.

Get well! Voice actors like Tom Kane help create childhood favorites. It would be very sad if he wasn't there to create more for others like us.

Man, I met him at a comic-con in LA two years ago. Here's hoping his recovery goes well, let him take all the time he wants or needs.

And thank god tomorrow's the 31st, this 90% hell of a year couldn't go away sooner!

Damn, I'm wishing him a speedy recovery! Get well soon, Tom Kane.

OT: My parents watched WW84 and they didn't like it either.

It's always awful to hear anyone suffer a medical problem but here especially since it's cutting into his livelihood as well as his passion.
Sometimes fate is quite mean, I'm sure he would have preferred something that didn't affect his voice.

Personally I'd rather have my foot fall off rather than lose my sight or voice.
