INCREDIBLES 2 Soars Toward A Record-Breaking $180 Million+ Opening Weekend

The latest box office estimates are in and Disney-Pixar's Incredibles 2 is soaring to an estimated $180 million-plus opening weekend at the domestic box office. Following a record-breaking $18.5 million in Thursday previews, the highly anticipated sequel to 2004's animated hit grossed an estimated $71.5 million on Friday. It's now pacing towards a record-breaking $182 million three-day debut.

Early estimates had predicted an opening weekend between $160 and $170 million (up from the original conservative estimate of $140M), which still would've been enough to overtake 2016's Finding Dory ($135M)  for highest opening ever for an animated film. Now, Incredibles 2 is actually outperforming some of Marvel and DC's biggest blockbusters. Should Incredibles 2 stay on track, it's $180 million would make it the 8th best opening of all-time, beating out Captain America: Civil War ($179.1M), Iron Man 3 ($174.1M), Batman v. Superman ($166M), Dark Knight Rises ($160.9M) and plenty of others.

Comparatively, its predecessor, Incredibles, opened in 2004 with $70.5 million, which at the time was the second-largest opening for an animated feature. It went on to earn $633 million worldwide along with winning an Oscar for best animated film.

Regardless of where it places on the list for domestic openings, Disney has to be pleased with Incredibles 2's performance early on - especially after Solo: A Star Wars Story didn't quite live up to expectations. Incredibles 2 is now in theaters and is receiving rave reviews with a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Do you plan on seeing Incredibles 2 in theaters this weekend?

I'm happy to hear this and hopefully it will encourage Disney to let Brad Bird do a live action superhero movie.

Such a well put-together film, very personal stakes, and with a lot of quiet moments, a great sequel!

Movie was great. Might be in my top 3 for the year. The villain was really predictable but whatever. It was a great watch.

Wow, with this and what Disney still has to come for the rest of the year, there is a realistic chance the Mouse has an $8-9 Billion year.

That's pretty...Incredible!

@LongMayHeReign - At some point Disney will be the one controlling all the currency in the world leaving Disney as the one world order in a future where governments and racism do not exist. The earth will be renamed to DISNEY

@SonOfAGif - In the event of this likely future utopia I would be a proud citizen of Disney. If you guarantee me no government or racism what's not to like, unless they make us wear the ears. I'm to damn old yo be rocking mouse ears bruh.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Like almost every Pixar film, the film is leagues above what the trailers made it seem.

Saw the movie two days ago.

Wasn't better than the first but it was still good.

But there was one thing I thought was lacking

SPOILERS

I wish the Underminer had been the main villain. That was the one unresolved plot point from the first I think it was a mistake to have him just escape and never appear in the film again.

I say this as well because I played Rise of the Underminer as a kid and for years that was the only Incredibles 2 I had. I think that game did a much more awesome version of him. He had a robot army, an underground society and much better banter.

So in that regard I think I think Rise of the Underminer was a better sequel.
