Following posters for Ryuk and L, Netflix has debuted the final two character banners for Adam Wingard's upcoming Death Note adaptation.

For those unfamiliar with the story, Natt Wolff (Paper Towns) plays a student named Light Turner who uncovers a mysterious notebook that kills people if their name is written in it. The Leftovers actress Margaret Qualley, meanwhile, portrays Light's high school girlfriend Mia, who embarks on a crusade alongside him to rid the world of evil

Also starring Paul Nakauchi as Watari and Shea Whigham as James Turner, Death Note hits Netflix on August 25.

Based on the famous Japanese manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realizing it holds within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone's name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die. Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life.

Hope it's doesn't do the "bullied kid gets powers" cliche

He gets beaten up by like 3 or 4 guys in the second trailer.

@Space - I know, but that would be pretty stupid too, if he does kill them, L and the police will wonder why some random teeangers just died, and that's unlike Light at all, he should be smart

I love Death Note, and I really want this movie to be good. I'm just not feeling the the dynamic set up between light and misa from the trailer. Light should be charming, charismatic, extremely manipulative, and intelligent with a god complex. In the manga he doesn't care about anyone, not his family or misa, only his goal and he believes that he is doing what Is right for the world. The trailer seemed like he is questioning whether what he is doing is right or wrong. I wish they would have done a series instead of a movie. I cant think of anything that can be taken out of the anime and still tell the story the way it should be told.

It honestly looks like shit and nothing like the true personality of the characters that they're supposedly playing.

@TheLight - Was he banned? The ban hammer has been going crazy lately. I guess they don't care about click through ad revenue. Maybe this is secretly a nonprofit enterprise.

I just watched the entire series this week and I loved it so I'm curious to see how this adaptation will be anything like the original. I hated Light so much btw. Was rooting for L the entire time

@DepressedAF - I hated him the moment he tried to kill L on National TV. I was like "This [frick]er's gotta go"
