Yes, that young lady is beautiful. They got so close with the looks I wonder why they didn't give him his iconic sideburns. It's a small thing, I know...

Well this just goes to prove that just because they're Japanese, they don't HAVE to look exactly like their animated counter-parts.

Fujiko looks really lovely, also the sideburns on Lupin could have made it look perfect though.

I know it's anime but I always thought that Lupin was white. A lot of animes seem to be ambiguous in this sense so they will appeal to as many audiences as possible.

Why don't they just do a proper Arsene Lupin film instead of this Japanese bollocks. The Last French movie was excellent fun but not very true to the original character from the LeBlanc novels.

I'd even prefer a live screen version of the Batman-esque 1990's Night Hood animated series of Arsene Lupin. The series was short lived but had one of the coolest opening sequences of its time with that music. Anything but this Japanese crap, keep the character French as he's supposed to be.

Looks good, I don't mind the "no sideburns" comment people always say when it comes to this movie because at the end of the day they will just watch this and live with it.

@Melkaticox - Italian my ass, Arsene Lupin is almost as old a fictional character as Sherlock Holmes and he's very much French. The writer who created him is French and he even goes up against Sherlock Holmes in one of the original books. There's been TV shows and movies made about the character as early as the 1930's and he's always remained French.

It's just because of the craze for Manga revival in the late 80's that ushered in a Japanese version for anime so for many who were following that stuff this was their first introduction to a version based on a very old and popular character of French fiction and media.

This live action film from 2004 was the last time the gentleman-thief was brought to the big screen, both Eva Green and Kristin Scott Thomas starred in it. Well overdue a sequel..

@Ceejay Ceejay Ceejay...

Lupin III is an old school Manga then anime series that ran from the late 60s to the mid 80s. The Japanese are very nostalgic for it which is understandable as it is a brilliant classic of both genres. Very funny too.Monkey Punch (its creator) is a genius and was involved in this film script. It is anything but crap.

1) Sideburns man, come on. Jige's look good though.
2) I always just assumed they would make Fujiko's boobs CG - They are practically their own characters.
3) Will the western version be hilariously rewitten and dubbed? If its not - then boooooo.

Does anybody else watch anime or read manga and think "do Japanese people ACTUALLY think they look like that?"

I mean, they look nothing like their cartoon counterparts, but I don't think they ever could if they wanted an all-Japanese cast!
nibs
nibs - 4/14/2014, 8:57 AM
I'm pretty sure the big-eye style of anime has nothing to do with race and is just an eye-contact connection thing, like when you're a baby you recognize other faces and people from eye contact.

Also, who gives a flying [frick] if he is French or Japanese? Both countries have their own interpretation of the old fictional character. This is the Japanese one. The Japanese weren't going to make a film based on the French interpretation of the character.
