Legendary Pictures has debuted the first official trailer and a new poster for upcoming live-action video game adaptation Detective Pikachu, which was recently re-branded as Pokemon: Detective Pikachu.

The footage introduces Tim (Justice Smith) who is searching for his long-lost father in a world where humans and pokemons coexist. Just when he's given up all hope of finding him, he gets some unexpected help from a little pikachu (Ryan Reynolds) who he can somehow understand.

In addition to Pikachu, there are appearances from various other Pokemon, including Psyduck, Squirtle, Mr. Mime and many more.

Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think. Does this look better than you expected, or have you zero interest in all things Pokemon?

Also starring Kathryn Newton, Ken Watanabe, Suki Waterhouse, Chris Geere, Rita Ora and Bill Nighy, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu is set to hit theaters on May 10, 2019.

Not into Pokemon, but that looked like a fun movie. Certainly seems like a good role for Reynolds. At least that guy from the abomination Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom isn't screaming like a girl this time around.

I'm excited and that's saying something dive I was originally aghast this. Glad they made they made the Pokemon unapologetically look like their original designs with the only difference being added textures for the sake of looking real.

Looks fun, some very spotty CG aside (that last scene being the worst offender). Still amazed that Hollywood's first Pokemon film is based off a spin off game.

Hope it does so good that we get a live action version of the first movie!

I am so confused by my emotions. On one hand I have always wanted to see a live action Pokemon movie. On the other hand this live action Pokemon movie is about a talking Pikachu investegating crime. What am I feeling right now?

I...erm...just hope that this will (eventually) open the doors for a live action Digimon movie.

What in the sweet holy hell was that? That was one of the weirdest looking movies i'm ever seen a trailer for. But I got to give it this, seeing live action charizard gave me goosebumps. So yeah...
